Mine was 8 months old...then it got the black plague (also known as 3 red lights). My elite is 1 month old and no problems yet.....I wonder if Microsoft hired hundreds of people just to fix broken 360's??

i've had mine since launch. first in line for the core. 2 douches were infront for the premium and were gloating about how they were going to put it on ebay and make about 5 grand off of each.
it died about 3 weeks ago.
mine is "stayin alive stayin alive ohoh oh oh stayin aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive."
1ST 360 Took about 2 Months to break (Stopped Reading Game Disk)
2ND 360 Took about 1 Week to break (Literaly) (3 Red Light Error) Hitachi
3RD 360 Took about 4 Months (3 Red Light Error & Freezing every 3 minutes of playing)
Now I'm waiting on myrepaired 360from Microsoft which I should get on the 18TH.
CRAP!!! lol. i just tried the towel trick and it worked. i dont know for how long though. mine was freezing at the boot menu (alot of times before the ball with the x on it could fly back). then when i'd shut it off and try again, i'd get the 3 red lights. its been down for close to a month. i figured what the hell, i'd try the 'towel' trick. i dont have a towel in my room so i used a fleese pullover and a cover. let it run for about 20 minutes and now im playin halo 2 (i let my friend borrow my only 2 360 game untill i got mine fixed/new one)
i dont know how long this will last, but im happy :D lol.
Mine neve broke on me but it got redrings everytime when I turned it on in the winter time and it frozeif I played over 2 hours or so..... but I traded it in for somethin else after about 8 months.
mine is 1 year and 5ish months old and never had a problem but then I do jump through all the hoops ms told me to like, make sure it is well ventilated, so I cut a 360 size hole in the back of my entertainment center and stuck its arse out the back.
don't use the intercooler that thing will either weld itself to your machine or screw with the power distribution.
keep it flat and steady, I've heard bad things about keeping it vertical.
never moving it while it is on.
It is plugged straight into the main socket not in one of those surge protected extensions
I am on my third xbox 360. The first purchased at launch lasted just 13 months, before displaying the red rings.
The second was returned to the store within 10 days with a faulty DVD drive.
My third is still alive and kicking :)
I would not keep replacing them except for the investment I have made in the games I have purchased.
To make matters worse, I carried my hard drive over each time, and now I must be logged onto xbox live to access much of my downloaded content.
My Launch console lasted about 3 months and then bit the bullet. Since then I've owned 2 Premiums and now an Elite - no problems with any of them.DataDream
Just out of curiosity...why 2 premium and an elite if they are fine?
Got mine on launch day... Manufacture date was 10-30-05 and I had no problems until last thursday... 3 Red lights... Called Microsoft, and they are sending me a UPS box and shipping me a new (refurbished)one once they get my old one. Plus one month free of Xbox live gold for my inconvenience... WOO HOO... a $5 value for my troubles... thanks. I still have not recieved my UPS pre paid box yet though and the arab on the other end of the support line told me it would be there in 3 business days... I called last friday, so by the latest it should have been here yesterday. If it doesnt come today I will have to call again.
I am going through some serious withdrawl...
