I've had my 360 since about October or November 2007 and shes still going strong :D. Hopefully she doesn't throw the towel in now that I've said this :P.
My 2 launch 360's died less than 1 year. The 2 systems i replaced those with also failed after only a few months. Now, my Elite 360 died exactly 2 years after purchase. Its such a reliable piece of hardware, my congratulations to MS for their quality standards.
The turn around is good, but 1 month of Live Gold is only worth about $4...thats not really a great apology for your trouble as far as i am concerned.Mine was after 2 and a half years, came with no warning.
On a plus note microsoft are hella good a getting you a system back, mine took less than a week and then they gave me a month of live gold for my trouble!

I've had mine since March 06, and it still works fine. It's really hard for me to believe they breakdown as much as everyone on GS claims.
