I recently read in an XBOX 360 magazine that they considered the XBOX 360 to be in its "Autumn Years" so this got me thinking "I wonder how long the 360 has left?" I think perhaps around 2-3 years at the most.
Any thoughts?

One article I read (can't remember which one) thought that the 360 would probably still be going strong in 2013. The technology isn't changing as rapidly as it once did and there aren't any major compelling reasons to boost the machines specs in the near future. They felt confident that the 360 would see a much longer life than the original Xbox (for many of the same reasons the PS2 is still going today).
i believe when the system first came out they were saying it would last til 2012 if i remember correctly.
I agree, I am more than happy with the graphics level of the 360, things would have to jump up a pretty far distance to get me to buy the next-next gen console if it was based on graphics alone.
When the PS3 came out a lot of people said the 360 would be replaced in 2009. As it turns out the PS3 wasn't much of a threat.. Yeah.. I'd give it 2/3 more years. cheamesheh...ps3....lots of potential and lots of $$$, but where are the games??? im all about the multi-console thing, but when the games arent coming out for the console, its not worth it. i have a wii (which was awesome the first 6 months....and then the games were trickling out...quality games anyway). my 360 is now my main console of choice and i love it.
I definitely don't think it's in its autumn, getting close to retirement though. If we could personify the 360 it would be on the highest pay scale with the cushiest job, haha.
I remember the ps1 and ps2 had some amazing games in their so called autumn, and really came into their own! Hopefully this happens with the 360 as well.
Expecting another evolution of Xbox in 1-2 years is naive. It won't happen---I say this assuredly.
Current gen systems will outspan previous iterations. Video Games are big players in the entertainment industry now. What we've seen with Halo 3, COD 4, and the Wii is a perfect indication of Video Game culture indoctrination into main-stream society. It isn't a niche hobby anymore. Games are HUGE on multiple levels. They're popular sure, but they also suck up a ton of resources. AAA Titles have budgets like Summer Blockbuster Bay films. Dev teams consist of some 200+ people not 2-20.
Some of the biggest games, in fact, haven't even been given release dates. (Alan Wake, APB, etc) I predict that some 2-3 years from now we'll still be playing our 360's and PS3's---middle-aged women will have lost interest with the Wii-altogether I think 2-3 years from now there will be another Wii, simply because the gimmick will have lost most of its' appeal. Unfortunately, my crystal ball shows a small area of the 360 being transformed into Wii-arm throwing-controller wiggling mockery. But this will be short-lived or at least over-looked. (MS just doesn't do "casual" very well).
Yeah i'd say 2012 at the earliest. It's no secret that MS is going over different ideas for the new console, but i would think that they want to take their time after what happened to the 360.
Approximately 3 years before a new console comes out.
I bet the 360 will not be phased out as quickly as the 1st xbox.
this is exactly what will happen. i believe this cycle will last a lot longer than previous ones (atleast for ps3/360). theres not too much more you can do with graphics. sure, they can ALWAYS get better but weve reached a point where its not enough every few years to usher a new system out. i mean, if games continue to get more and more complex, it will take devs longer to produce. some AAA titles take up to 4, 5 years now, as it is. furthermore, with the economy the way it is (not saying its going up or down) people need to spend wiser and a system with slightly better graphics wont entice as many people. devs still have a lot of potential to tap into, so i could see the 360 going strong for quite some years stillOne article I read (can't remember which one) thought that the 360 would probably still be going strong in 2013. At least 2 years until a new system is even announced. There hasnt been enough breakthroughs technologically yet to demand another system that would be remotely affordable. And even after the new system is announced and released it will take another 2 years before games really start to look and play decent on it. The initial game releases for the 360 were horrible.
Consoles only last around 3 to 6 years and then new ones re-place them, the xbox 360 came out in holiday 2005 and then wii and PS3 came in holiday 2006 and now its may 2009. So i would say that 2011 or 2012 the next xbox will come. The console to last the longest was the atari 2600, it lasted 8 years and then the NES came in. So this generation of games is most likely near the end. Who knows microsoft might say they're working on a new console at this E3.
This month's Game Informer has an article about the current systems expected lives. They basically said based on the info, numbers, and word from Microsoft was that MS wanted to squeeze at least three more years from the system.
November 2011, next xbox, mark it.TheBigTicket21
lol, microsoft still has projects coming out in 2012 for the 360, 2011 is a little bit...um..early do't ya think ?:?
