My first Xbox 360 got the RRoD, but it wasn't having disc read failures... what happened with it was a hard drive failure. It would have worked perfectly fine without the hard drive connected, but given all the things that basically need/recommend a hard drive (not least of which, xbox 1 compatibility), I needed to get it replaced. The second one I thought was going out on me because for whatever reason, it didn't want to sync with my controller, whether I used the play-n-charge cable or wirelessly. It was only after I replaced it again for an HDMI-enabled 360 Pro that I realized that it wasn't the console that was going bad - it was the rechargeable battery itself! :shock: Using that rechargeable, no controller would be able to sync with the console or anything else. :evil: If I have to return my Xbox 360 again, what I think I'll try to do is pay the difference and upgrade to an Elite model, then renew the replacement plan. I figure it would cost me almost another $200 with tax, but the bigger drive space and cooler running system would be very much worth it.
Mine has never broken... Are there any trends that people have found for those that have broken theirs?
I mean... Am I taking "better care" of my xbox in some way? Has anyone done any studies? Or is it just random bad luck and manufacturing of the xbox machine itself? Is it length of time used? Is it how cool you keep the machine? Does it have to do with vertical or horizontal placement?
Do we have any bearing on how any of those factors effect the failures of xboxs? Or just pure bad luck
RROD on 2 different 360s. My 9 month old Elite is starting to make funny noises. My other 2 360s made funny noises for a couple months before the RROD. I keep the thing well ventilated and I am not willing to set a desk fan up just to have it blowing on the 360. That shouldn't be necessary.
Almost twice when I pressed the Eject button and was getting a game and my cat rubbed up against the disc trey, it scared me because I thought it would have trouble like my last one did before RROD but it didnt.
Well. I'll list below. 1 was stolen. (Didn't break, but I count it.) 2 got the RRoD Then, in my most recent 360, the **** Disk Drive stopped working. It turns on fine, plays demos, but won't read disc at all. WTF? Oh well, Im not gonna have a new one by the time Burnout Paradise comes out, but I better have a new one by the time Lost Odyssey comes out. I have a warranty with Gamestop because I thought that it would be faster to just get one from there instead of sending it off. Normally that works, but now they dont sell product replacement plans for the 360 anymore. Plus, for some mysterious reason, every single Gamestop in my area (I live in Virginia Beach), doesn't have any 360s except for the Halo Edition.
Once on 2008 new year lol. It lasted me almost 2 years though since february 06 so not too bad. Its still in the repair center hope it comes back soon got myself a ps3 to hold my off in the mean time though.
Mine has broken twice so im on my third. After my first one broke i got a frefurbished one and they don't extend your warranty, so when my seconed one broke, i had to pay $99 for another refurbished one just so it will probably break again and there goes another $99. MICROSOFT IS STERALING OUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is unlike microsoft to make low quality material. Dont get me wrong i love the xbox360 its just that microsoft just dosnt feel like solving the problems they just want to get the extra cash out of you.
my xbox has broke for the 2ND time this year for the exact same reason. the disc drive just will not read the disc. and i was wondering will i have to pay another £60 to get it repaired and i also heard somewhere Else that i might get a free game? can anyone help me out .
I just sent mine out for the third time. The second time I sent it out, it took four weeks for me to get it back. :(

It was on mine third return to microsoft when i got freebies, i got a game which was a choice of Kameo, PGR 3 and PDZ and a choice of either a wireless controller or a wireless headset
mine broke, it didn't get the rrod, it just wouldn't display a picture. All you saw was white dots scrolling across the screen. I bought new cables, and same thing. I called m$, they said turn it in for repairs. I didn't feel like waiting that long, so I got a relatively cheap one off ebay. That one has worked up to now.
My Xbox 360 has broke twice so far. The Firs time was RRoD and the second time my xbox 360 couldn't read the disc. Is there any way i could get my xbox replaced with a brand new one instead of getting it refurbished or repaired?
2. First my Pro. Got back a referb and then it died Oct 20, 08. I fixed it using the Penney trick. And I bought one on Christmas eve, it's the new Arcades with the Jasper chip set. So two of my pro's broke I fiexed one and then bought an Arcade. So I now have two working 360.
i bought mine used on ebay (BAD CHOICE) about 2 months ago and it broke 1 month ago. and since it was over a year old, the warranty was out (wasn't RROD, and i wasn't smart enough to tell them it was) and i got it back in time for christmas to kill all the nubs on COD5 :)
Never. My launch 360 still works fine and the two I bought for my brother and sister have never broken either. Guess I'm lucky (then again my launch ps3 bricked in the first week so go fig).
