A year and a half after buying the core system I got a tv that supports full hd. I just now realized I wasn't playing games in HD.

I checked on ebay and its less then 9.99 for a Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable. I tried google and haven't found a good comparison of HD vs non HD.

Does playing in HD really improve the graphics or is it just novelty that gets forgotten quickly?

HD is absolutely worth it. I had to play on a SDTV for a month or so and when I got HD back it was like night and day. Better colors, sharper image, better contrast, etc.

If you already have an HDTV please do yourself a favor and use HD. BTW the component (red, green, blue?) wires that come with the Xbox are HD compatible.

The difference between SD and just 480p is huge. So playing a game in full 1080p really makes a difference and you won't know it until you see for yourself. It's absolutely worth it.

As he stated he got the core package which only includes red white yellow. To get full HD 1080P you'll need an HDMI cable. You can get the Xbox HDMI package for 60 bucks but ebay has a bunch of HDMI cables for cheap.

Well some games since they are optimized for HD look terrible on a standard def TV, a good example of this is Fallout 3. Early in the 360's life though a number of games were near unplayable in SD, a good example of this was Dead Rising, you couldnt see the words on the screen in SD. It really depends on how much you care about visuals, some games obviously don't look as good but its not a big deal, however some games just go to hell on an SD TV.

I sometimes play in the bedroom on a non-hd tv and I can tell you it is definitely worth picking up the cable. Its the difference between night and day!!!

I did tests on my dad's 60 inch Sony LCD TV, and the differences are not that noticeable, if at all. I would say save your 10 bucks.

Yeah, I had a SDTV and the moment I played on an HDTV I couldn't go back. I had to go buy an HDTV before I would allow myself to play my 360 again. It's that good! Plus, in shooting games it helps when you can see all the way across the map with no blurryness at all.

people who have not ever experienced HD sometimes say that they don't see a difference. But that's because they've never experienced it and never made a side by side comparison. The difference is phenomenal. I've been gaming in HD for about a year now and whenever I see a 360 or PS3 running on an SDTV, I cringe. HD makes a huuuuge difference.

Go with Hdmi if your Tv has the port. Make the best better. Monoprice.com has Hdmi cables for under $10. $10 Component or $10 Hdmi, its really a no brainer. Trust me on this one.

Or if you turn the Q around and ask:

How much did the game sound get corrupted when you installed to the HDD? (thinking about PGR4, the awnser would be: -It gets unplayable!)

X360 in SD looks like an "improved ps2" and in some games you cant even read small text. Once I bought my Sony Bravia HDTV - difference was like day and night. Sharper images, better contrast, better colors, better everything. HD is what makes next-gen consoles next-gen.

The ironic part here is that the quote unquote "ugly" picture is actually much more clear than the picture you are trying to call 1080p. I really hate using this term, but your post is so deserving of it, but this simply fails.

HD makes a difference but it does not make a video game better. HD is over hyped this gen and is nothing new. I prefer better gameplay. And before you scream "because you dont have a HDTV." I have a Sony Bravia 42" 1080p, two HDMIs, PC input, etc...

Full HD is marketing nonsense. Also, not many games support 1080p...

If he bought a full HD TV don't you think that he will also be able to afford a $10 cable? Yes, do it. The difference is huge. Like switching from VHS to DVD.

No, you're wrong. You can get full HD, 1080p, using the component cables if the TV supports 1080p through component. While the HDMI should look better, you are still able to get full HD out of component, so just buy the cheaper component cables if you don't have an HDMI port.

you do get full support with HD component but if you get HDMI (you can use any hdmi) the picture looks even better and you can change the hd settings on your xbox 360 to make it look even better on your tv

Not true. I play on a 21" monitor and the difference from my SDTV I had before is massive. Which do you think is sharper, 720p in 21" or 480i in 21"...

When I do play on my 54" 1080 I don't see much of a difference between it and tehe 720p on my 21" except that I can sit much farther away on the 54".

Just get Component if your tv supports 1080p through component. Or VGA is also an option for 1080p. You definitely don't need a 60 dollar HDMI. you will get the same quality from a $10 one.
