im guessing at least 3 years but i think it will go for longer this gen has grown slowly and all 3 want to have a chance to make money this go around. With that being said the wii is the only one really bringing in alot of money MS and sony are hurting def sony. thier gonna want to drag this gen out to make as much money as possible.
plus bringing in a new gen is probably gonna mean even more expensive hardware which is gonna be a problem when it comes to pricing. Its gonna be better for them to hold off until they can make the systems cheaper.
The original Xbox had a short lifespan (3 years), and some people are speculating that the 360 will follow suit. What these people don't take into account is that the Xbox came pretty late in the game last gen. The PS2 had been out around 2 years before the Xbox was released, and Microsoft wanted to get a jump on the competition with the 360. The 360 had to be released when it was because the competitors were preparing their next-gen offerings. So the Xbox started late and ended early... this is not the case with the 360.
Also, there was an article a while back where someone from MS stated that they had already begun work on the next Xbox. When this came out, Sony fanboys came out in droves claiming that the 360 was at the end of it's life and the next Xbox would be out next year. This led to a wildfire of internet rumors and speculation that many took as fact. The truth is, every company does this. Once the "next gen" console is released, the company almost immediately starts research and development on their next release. I can guarantee Nintendo and Sony are also working on their next systems... this does not mean they're all coming out next year.
Now, as for an exact timeline... it's tought to say, but I'm guessing around Christmas 2010 or early 2011 at the earliest. As someone that's been buying consoles for a long time, I can tell you that we'll be hearing a lot of hype about the next systems more than a year before they hit store shelves.

it was 4 years.
I think that the 360 will last a long time, because there is a big market for them! I wanted one, got one then my friends will want one then everybody will get one. The more people that have one the better, because the more variaty of people to play on live. It is also a great way to meet new friends and stay in contact with others!
Jess :D
