Console games had been $50 since I started getting into gaming, thats the way it should have been, PC gmaes are still $50 for the same damn game. But because we own a console we gotta pay $10 extra for no reason other than because.
And sports games should only be $30, theres no need for them to be full price thats a waste and outright robbery to pay full price for last years game with a new roster.
i think it should be $25, then everyone would buy games, instead of just renting them.
i mean they end up being $25 a few years down the road anyways, why does it change? why can they afford to drop the prices later on? did the game get cheaper to make or something
I don't understand why people always complain about game prices, I forget where I saw the breakdown but retailers make barely any money on video games now a days because everyone needs their cut.
Publishers, developers, marketing firms and retailers all demand a cut from the 60 dollar rate. With publishing costs only rising to make better and better games that we as consumers demand we will continue to have to pay a premium unless you want 3rd party garbage games like the wii offers.....anyone feel like playing happy-fun carnival games on their 360 for only 39.99? No? I didn't think so...

hell they could sell the game to us for 10 bucks if they wanted too, but they must meet the costs it took to make the game, and to make a lil profit all at once. And since games on PS3 + 360 are getting more advanced, requiring more coding, animation, dialogue, multiplayer (which is a real pain to make), than last gen, they are charging the consumer more than usual. higher quality game = higher costs = higher price for consumer. They sell it for 60 bucks because it JUST came out and the only way you can get is by paying for that price. the reason why they sell it for cheap later is because by that time the company has sold X amount of units, and they milk the consumers by lowering the price bit by bit....
I say it depends on the game. Craptastic titles like Assassins creed, army of two, bullet witch, x-men, fantastic four, etc etc etd should be launched at 40$. Huge titles like GTA4 and NG2 definitly should be 60$ and I wouldnt mind paying that price for it.
Edits...
Did I just say 40$ for craptastic titles. Make that 30$ and under. I had to force myself to play bulletwitch.
Is 60 bucks to expensive? Vote how much do u think a xbox 360 game should costiwantasong
It has nothing to do with the 360 but games in general. Be happy that they are stuck at 60 dollars/euros, PS3 games go for 70 -75 euros in my country. As long as people keep buying them the price will stay the same and people will keep on buying them.
Well $60USD is pretty tame I think. I pay $100-$110AUD for new release games (converts to $92-$101USD). Consider yourselves lucky.soccerdude256you cant compare it like that. the economy sucks in the US right now. I think you guys in Australia get more cash on your paycheck aswell.
[QUOTE="killerfist"]games cost that much on consoles because Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft loose a large amount of money with each console they sell. i has been like this since a very long time. leonhead
But then why do they have consoles on the market? what do they gain?
its about preference. people buy them, thats why theyre here. the prices of console games are splitted in alot of things. tax, money for devs, money for the console corp, money for the store. PC games all that without the share for the console maker. thats why they are a bit cheaper
in the uk aswell we pay £40/£50 for new releases which is about $80/$100 so bring on the $60PhilGDUK2

Ah, so thats what you said. Agreed.
i agree. i'm fine with paying $60 for my games.I don't understand why people always complain about game prices, I forget where I saw the breakdown but retailers make barely any money on video games now a days because everyone needs their cut.

INdeed, it is unfair how we are charged more. DS games cost double in the UK =[.

Exactly. And even then they aren't making much profit anyway. The lower the price the riskier it gets for developers and the less likely they'll take chances.
I'd love for games to be cheaper too. But if you can't afford it there are plenty of better alternatives (renting, waiting for price to drop, etc.) than complaining about it.
You can't bunch Assassin's Creed in with Bullet Witch... the latter was far more atrocious.
As for game prices... I think that the advent of Game Buy Back programs, like EB Games, are really what caused the prices to jump. Also, as numerous people here have stated, our 60USD is nothing compared to what other countries have to pay.
However, I really do wish it had stayed at 50USD... the price markup has actually caused me to start buying most of my games used. Paying an extra 10USD a game really adds up in the long run... I find I'm buying less games and occasionally deciding between entertainment or lunch some months.

We have to pay the extra 10 because the creator of the console (Microsoft in our case) wants some money for the game you buy as well. The PC platform isn't owned by any company, so no one could claim that price. You strictly pay the developer for PC games, where on console games you pay the console creator too.
I think that games should be at a standard of € 39.99 for first party games and € 49.99 for third party games. It would make the most sense since with first party games Microsoft will get all the money anyway, and with third party games they will get there € 10 share on it.
Games right now are € 59.99 by standard for all games. And I don't get it. The € 39.99 I mentioned earlier for first party games would result in a $ 62.92 price in the US. That only seems fair for us Europeans. Because right now we have to pay the € 59.99 or $ 94.39 for a standard game. And last I checked, we didn't earn more euro's then people in the US earned dollars.
Well 2k follows that, by making sports game that are cheaper than the ea ones(EA-60$ 2K-30$ 40$)Console games had been $50 since I started getting into gaming, thats the way it should have been, PC gmaes are still $50 for the same damn game. because either it lost its value or no one is playing it anymore
thats why they lower the prices
so people will say oh i remember that game its only 30 bucks might as well buy it
SOLD
I really dont mind paying 60$ for titles that have been worked on for years and basically going to be hits. However games that seem like only 6 months was spent on them deserve to be priced at 30$-40$ at release day
And sports games shouldnt even be released at anywhere past 40$ these days because developers have ran out of ideas. Every sports game thats been released by far has minor tweaks and maybe 1 new gameplay mechanic.
