My latest refurb is definitely quieter then my previous consoles, but it's still pretty loud. The sound has been more apparent since I got my PS3, which is very quiet. Still though, this newest one is noticeably quieter then my last few have been.
Well, I've gone through five repairs and my 6th Xbox is the quietest of them all. You can still hear the fans spinning but its so smooth and hardly notice able. It hasn't over heated as well even though I play for major time periods. I just wanted to know how loud/quite yours is. =DJapanese_Jade
Mines kinda loud, but I don't really notice once I'm in the game.
Have an elite that I bought 1.5 months ago, andits slighly quiter than the premium I returned 2 months ago, but it's still too loud for a gaming machine. A good example of quiet is everything else. so, what i do is put the elite in position A, against the wall, then put the tv about 3 feet away from it, and i sit about 2.5 feet away from the tv. Yet, i realize that this situation is not practical for most people.
I'm usually to busy listening to the game to know or care how loud the 360 is. :) However, it definitely isn't loud enough for me to cringe and with my DLP TV whirring away, I hardly notice it..
As many people have said here, it doesnt bother me when I'm involved in the game.
But when im not gaming (e.g. when I pause the game) it really becomes an annoying issue. Its especially annoying when trying to download games overnight and all you can hear in your bedroom is a jet-engine going off.
Sounds like a Concord trying to take off at the middle of your room, once ingame i ignore the noise but its a horrible distraction when watching a movie or downloading stuff overnight.
Unless you sit within arms reach of the system and/or play with the TV on mute no one should have a problem with the system noise. I have no issues with mine.
