Alright, I might have to get wireless live, but I don't want to. I fear it'll make my connection slower, at least enough to be noticeable, and drop my performance online.

We may have to move the router since my mom will be working from home, therefore making me get wireless since the router will be one floor below.

But I insist even if we move the router I can still have wired but they don't like the fact that:

1. We'd drill holes to get to the ethernet cable to the router

or

2. We'd have a wire throughout the house rather than a whole room

So how do I convince them to keep me wired, whether or not the router is moved?

check out netgear's new ethernet over powerline system (slingbox also do them). means u can havea secure conection of at least 85mbps (up to 200mbps if u get teh turbo models) without wireless and NOT have a long-ass cable across the house. one adapter goes into a AC wall plug next to ur modem, then another goes into the power socket near ur ethernet device (PC or xbox, or router) and like magic they just work! desont matter if the plug is 5 meteres or 15mtres away, just needs to be on the same circuit.

Tell them that the xbox wireless adapter has been found to emit radiation and causes severe brain cancer. Throw something in there about the surgeon general to let them know you're serious! haha

Like does the one near the 360 still have an ethernet cable going from one end of that adapter to the 360?

30 Ft. Ethernet cable.(or longer as needed)

I've only got one router in my house as well and I play video games on the second floor. But, it is a bit unpleasant to see this wire around the house, but it's cheap and works just fine.

I use the Wireless adapter and it has never wronged me before. My downloads only take a few minutes (I downloaded two gigs in less than 20 minutes) and I never lag online. I think you're thinking way too much about this, I don't think you'll notice any considerable change in your connection and download speed.

You could quote them the price for the 360 wireless adapter. That's one overpriced mother****er.

Same here. I'm using the original XBOX360 wireless adapter, and it works great. The throttle-point is going to be the speed of your broadband connection. If you have a 100mb Cat5 cable or a 54mb wireless adapter and a 6mb broadband speed, they are both going to be limited to a max speed of 6mb online. I also have a cellphone, cordless phones, microwaves, and a gazillion other pieces of electronics on or near the XBOX, and have never experienced any interference.

Question is, where do u guys have the routers and the xbox... I see what he's asking... wireless connection speed won't only depend on your bandwith and won't always work flawlessly... Signal strenght is a major factor and could make your connection not so great even with a descent Internet connection speed

maybe because of you configuration it works without issues, where you have placed each element, how far they're and how many obstacles are in between them... but that does not guarantee his case will be like yours
