A popular method here in Japan is to hire a Japanese priest (Please refer to the image below) to perform an excorcism on your 360. According to ancient Japanese folklore it is believed that the 3 red lights sybolizes the onset of an evil spirit possesing your console. In Japanese the number four is pronounced "Shi" the same word also used for the death. There is a great deal of superstition about the number four to the point where most Hotels in Japan do not have a room number 4 (Simillar to the western stigmatism of the number 13.) The 3 red lights stymbolise that your console is close to it's death "Shi" but is still saveable.

The priest will come to your house, wave a bit of leaf or twig or whatever at your 360, mumble some incoherent mumbo jumbo and finish up by showering it with some insence to freshen it up a little and have it smelling nice. It is important that you disconnect all power sources to your 360 to make sure the excorcism is fully successfull and there is no possibility of the demon returning to your 360.

An artists depiction of the 360 "Ring of death" manifestation.

NOTE: This ancient Japanese technique also works on Nissans, Walkmens and instant noodles. The will not however work on Ford automobiles because as American inventions they are inherently evil and cannot as such have any evil presence removed from the them. You are therefor advised to purchase a Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi (Just make sure you check the brakes first.) or Honda automobiles instead.

どうもありがとう!

I was originally going to make this a thread for people to make their own crazy suggestions about how to fix their 360's (e.g. the hot towel technique.) but I wasn't sure if it'd fly or not. So if you do have your own unique and interesting way of fixing your 360 please share it for those desperate among us to try it. Cover it in honey and bury it in a dessert perhaps?

Also the bit about the number 4 meaning detath and there being no room number 4 in hotels is also completley true. There's even another word for 4 "Yon" that people use to avoid potential bad luck. Same goes for number 7 which is "Shichi" again shi meaning death. The alternate word for 7 is "nana". See you learn something new every day.

You know, the xbox 360 is an american console. Therefore, like you said about Ford cars, it is inherently evil and cannot be saved.

The correct word for death is "Shinu" verbs in Japanese have differn't connotations depending on the tense and use etc i.e. past tense, imperatives (Commands) etc.

e.g. Shinu - die (perfect)

Shinda - dead (Past)

Shine - die! (Imperative)

So the root of the word "Shinu" is Shi. You can check it out though it's all 100% true.

Also it's not really that different from people in western countries and the number 13. Or superstitions like "Knock on wood", putting new shoes on the table, opening an umbrella indoors or saying "Bless you" when someone sneezes. The Japanese also have some interesting ones. If you whistle at night snakes will come, if you cut your toes at night you'll die and it's very unlucky and inpolite to put your chopsticks into your bowl, always rest them on the top when your not using them. Always wrap a kimono or Yukata left over right becauseright over left is how people are wrapped after they die.

Yeah I was poking fun at the idiots who claim that the 360 isn't selling well here in Japan because Japan hates America or American technologyand products. People who used unfounded stereotypes as a basis for some twisted form supposed rational reasoning.

do you live in japan or somthing, i'm know alot of this is true, espeshally the chopsticks thing, i'm just wondering how you know all this.

i'd also like to point out that it's a very common missconception that the japanese don't like anything not made in japan. the playstation brand may do very well, but sony all togethor does not do very well in japan, espeshally in the way of home computers. most computers in japan are macs, and the top selling MP3 player there is the iPod just like here in north america.

Yeah I do live in Japan. I've lived here for about 3 1/2 years now.

And yeah your absolutley right about American products. Japanese like every other consumer in the world like to buy products from established, lpopular and trusted brands. A good example that you cited was PC's and MP3 players. Sony and many other Japanese companies also make PC's and MP3 players but the best selling ones in Japan are American made one's like I-pods etc. Sony actually has a pretty bad reputation for it's hardware in Japan so people avoid buying Sony MP3 players and Sony laptops (Exploding batteries anyone?) The 360 is a follow-up to a console that absolutley bombed in Japan. The Xbox was a complete failure that had little to no Japanese developer support and not a single Japanese RPG in it's library. Microsoft have to do alot to overcome it's own reputation that it set with the original Xbox and it's doing a pretty good job. They've managed to convince alot of Japanese developers to support the 360. But it's a gradual process and it'll take alot more than just a Blue Dragon or a Lost Odyssey to win over sceptical buyers. Microsoft can't win the console war in Japan in this generation. It has way too much lost ground to make up for to catch up with it's competitors who have also had a huge headstart on establishing their brands in Japan. If Microsoft keep on doing what they're doing now then they may well be on a far more levelled playing field next time round.

Right now the 360 in Japan is like Bush running for a 3rd term election against Clinton. Clinton is an established and respected President. Bush on the other hand has shown himself to be a failure and will have to work damn hard to show and convince people that he's not going to screw up this time round. It's the same situtation for Microsoft. Microsoft are coming off the back of a failed console (In Japan) and are up against 2 long established gaming giants. I has nothing to do with Japanese hating Americans or American products. To anyone who's ever stepped foot in Japan this will be extremely obvious. Japanese go crazy for anything and everything American.
