Put on a fan pointing towards the vent of the 360 and blow the heat out if you can or just give it alot of space and make it like 70-72 degrees thats what I do and the thing only gets hot after like 6-7 hours :).

elevate your 360 in some creative way so that the majorit of your vents aren't covered up.

Make sure none of the ventilation holes are blocked, so placing it on a hard surface is much better than on a rug or on carpet.

Don't put it in an enclosed space as the hot air from the 360 will just get recirculated into it making it more prone to overheating. Also make sure the power brick can get fresh air, as it also gets hot and can overheat and shutdown

Keep it horizontal, vertical blocks the vents. Did someone seriously say "play it moderately"???? hahaha What a sad state of affairs, "you have your brand new xbox360 now just don't play it a lot or it'll break". I'm on my third 360, if you worry about stuff like this buy a ps3 and play the hell out of it.

I did all of these things and mine was still cursed by the red ring of death.

The bottomline, if your Xbox was made prior to early 2007 you're screwed and it WILL die eventually. I had mine completely open to get a lot of air to cool, and even had it elevated on something so the bottom would cool. It still died. The good news is that MS will fix it for free, and ship it for free when it does die, and it only took about 2 weeks to send it out and get it back for me.

If it was made in or after 07 I think you're all set and don't have to worry too terribly much about keeping it cool. Just make sure it has air to breath.

Set up your TV in the kitchen, drill a hole in your freezer to run a power cable and video cable from. Run cables from TV and power to xBox in freezer and make sure to seal the holes with caulk so your freezer still works. Additionally you may want to place the Xbox in the ice tray and run the ice maker a few times just for good measure... now you don't have to worry about moving very far for meals either.

It's all about dedication, ingenuity, and the need to occasionally take a jigsaw to major kitchen appliances in the name of gaming.

Put youre 360 under youre aircon so according to convection currents the hot air from the 360 should rise and the cold air from the aircon should fall(on the 360 hopefully). or you can used the old fashioned waterbottle to supercool youre online gaming experience.

What I do is I take a couple of VHS tapes and lay my 360 on it horizontally with the VHS tapes in between the vents. That way all of the vents are clear to suck in air.
