I found a guide on how to keep your Xbox 360 cool, I'd recommend reading it (starting with how to clean it and moving on to how to repair RROD [which also works to prevent it]) Here's the first guide [how to clean] I'd recommend starting with this. All the guides are on this same site though. Xbox 360 Repair Guides

error 404

anyways, taking good care of your 360 might help. i still have one from 2007 and it works just fine, though the disc tray doesnt open/close as fast as it used to.

install games, leave 360 in ventilated area, dont let it get too hot, treat it like a baby, etc.

The best way to prevent red ring is to get rid of your old Xbox and get s Slim. Like everyone else did 2 years ago.

I'm still pissed off at MS, I take very good care of my systems, never had one die before my 360 not even my launch PS2. Taking care can't hurt, but it sure ain't gonna be %100 protection against a dead console. At least MS replaced it for free, but still having an older model I'm sure it will drop dead soon, hopefully the slims will take a price drop before that.

So you're mad at Microsoft because your Xbox has broken before? Every piece of high end electronics breaks and some time or another, that's just technology.

Ya, the new slims are bullet proof. I would invest in one if I was you.

the 360 rrod isn't really caused by heat, although heat was a problem. I've repaired 360's just by reheating them. Let em sit for a month and then came back and they re-rrod'd. It's uneven pressure from the x clamp. The x clamp fix works, provided you actually drill into the motherboard tray. If you don't, then they tend to re-break. Keeping them cool after this is quite useful to prevent a future rrod.

However there is the issue of how freaking loud the 360 is, which is why a 360 slim would be nice... I have an elite I fixed, and fixed my bro's 360. They are so freaking loud.

Yea but they don't tend to break in the first 6 months. Not to mention it is pretty clear the original 360's had a flawed design. So, if you buy a brand new car and after putting 3,000 miles on it the engine goes, you'll say "well all cars die eventually, that is perfectly normal"?

I am on my fourth 360. I have had a Falcon, a Jasper, and a slim crap out on me so far. By comparison my Wii has worked fine since literally day one and I have probably played it three times more than all my 360s combined. Hell, my Atari 2600 was manufactured in 1977 and it still works. Even my early generation CD ROM consoles (3DO, CD-i, SEGA CD, Jag CD, Saturn, Neo Geo CD, and PS1) all still work perfectly and some of them are pushing 20 years old. I love the 360 as a console but there's really no denying that its hardware was terrible. The Slims are a huge improvement but they still cut some corners.

treat it like a baby

konvikt_17

I did. I yelled at it. I shook it. I dropped it from the roof onto a concrete sidewalk. Nothing worked. :(

i got my RROD in 2008. I shipped it off to MS, they sent it back in like a week, they didn't replace it, they just fixed it. I know because i put my address on the console
