There's cooperative and versus. I view the coop as training for Versus, which I find is the game's main attraction. And I've had more fun with Left 4 Dead's versus than I have with any other multiplayer game for years.
First off i am a ridiculous fan of the game.....my roommate and i spends lots of time playing spilt-screen online versus....at this point i have to say that I am about as good as i can get at the game and its def. the best online game out right now.....the only thing that i cant stand is that if you win one time against the opposing team and you are beating them by a thousand they will quit the game so as far as the other players goes in that sense its the worst that i have ever played
Pretty much it's one versus mode that's pretty much the campaign mode with the exception that survivors can't respond and bosses are controlled by humans oh and you can only play on two maps.

Also things are different. The final levels are normally slightly different.
