How's Street Fighter 4 with the regular controller? I am interested in buying the game but not if I really need to buy the arcade joystick.

It is great with the regular controller I had the Tournament stick and sold it after I used it in over 200+ matches and am still winning at the same rate while having clocked in 200+ matches with the regular controller. The arcade joystick is really nice do not get me wrong but the actual controller is less responsive but not bad at all. I like both and prefer joystick because it is a little more fun but my winning percent is the same with both joystick or controller. I am currently using the controller because I wanted the extra cash for the tournament stick and got my fun out of if already.

I use the analog stick without a problem. Go for it. ;) you dont need an arcade stick to enjoy it.

Im sorry I have to disagree with you; the 360 controller is terrible and incredibly unresponsive. Its almost impossible to pull off some moves in the heat of battle. i can bareley beat the trials with it.

It's horrible. I'm honestly finding it unplayble.

I need to save up for an arcade stick :(

I'm doing good with it. Sometimes its kind of unresponsive but its nothing serious. I definitively suggest an arade stick for this one but you can still enjoy it with the 360 controller.

I wouldn't recommend buying SF4 without a proper controller. Try Soul Calibur 4 instead, it's much more fun on the Xbox pad.

It depends on your skill level and what character your playing as. At my skill level it's fine, but if I were trying to pull off cancels and links it would probably drive me crazy.

huge waste of sixty bucks....the regular controller is not COMPLETELY unresponsive (still never seen guile's Ultra move) but linking combos and winning on any difficulty level higher than medium is damn never impossible without buying a tourny stick.

read my review...it'll set u straight... RENT, DONT BUY!

I know saying this sounds like a fanboy and is a bit cliched but I think it's ok for me to say it since it's true. But you just suck at the game. The 360 controller is fine. Street Fighter is all about skill and practicing to get better. You not being able to do Guile's ultra is your own problem. It's easy to do with the 360 controller. I suggest you practice some more

to be honest, the 360 controller works just fine with me as long as i'm using the Stick and not the D-Pad. I got a SF4 Fight Pad on the way to my house and i'm excited how it turns out ;)

I have A FightStick and it's great but the joystick has A square gate for the stick.I am used to A rounde gate so it took A little while to get used to.As for the 360 controlor if you use the analog stick it works really good just make sure that you asign the buttons the way that best works for the fighter your going to use.

What about these special 360 controllers with the supposedly different D-Pad? The ones with the pictures of SF4 characters on them? An arcade stick is just too steep of an investment for 1 game...but it seems as though if the D-Pad were better the game would be great... So what about that for a compromise?

They dumbed down special move inputs in SFIV so pulling moves off is like 80% easier on SFIV. Also, an arcade stick being too steep of an investment for 1 game... What about instruments for Rock Band and such? Atleast you can use an arcade stick for other fighting games and some XBLA games :)

Yeah, the normal 360 controller is fine for the basic gameplay. Anything beyond that though is pretty stupid to even attempt to do with a controller. Focus attack dash cancels, linking combos, the things that require so much dexterity to pull off and so many different buttons within such a small time frame to do, I doubt anyone will be able to do them consistently with the normal 360 pad. Training mode is one thing, doing it in a real match is another. I've been playing SF competitively for a very very VERY long time, almost everyone remotely good at SF will tell you a stick is the way to go. Of course a stick isn't an absolute requirement, but it will help dramatically in the long run. For newcomers, a stick will take awhile to get used to when its your first time playing on one. YOU WILL SUCK A-LOT on stick for a good amount of time. So to the people who think a stick will improve their game immediately, it doesn't happen that way. Practice practice practice, that is the key to getting good at any game. And @ PlasmaBeam44, this message isn't aimed directly at you, so don't take any offense :). Your post is spot on and I just felt like I needed to touch on it somemore.

the analog stick will get you by just fine. It's the d-pad that's garbage. Anyone saying that the 360 contoller is completely unresponsive is either using the d-pad or is just trash at the game. Of course the stick is better, though.

Agreed. I fend pretty well with just the analog stick and it seems to work very good. Not quite as good as an arcade stick (obviously), but it does the job. If you ever face an opponent with an aracade stick online, you'll know pretty fast. :P

If you want a hardcore setup go with this, http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catalog/Xbox-360-Max-Shooter-v2-p-2794.html ,and get a custom stick from http://www.massystems.com/ProStick.html . Also to keep your stick from sliding around when doing combos get some 10 lbs. ankle weights to put inside of the joystick box.

I think the consensus is the D-pad is laughably disgusting. The analog stick is not too bad, but I have trouble with blocking. I pull down and back, but the analog stick is too sensitive because you do not need 360 degrees of motion with SFIV. I have to keep reminding myself to push the stick a little more to the left or right when pressing down. I would say 7/10 for the normal controller when using the analog stick. I am planning on getting a stick though since that is the only way fighting games are meant to be played IMHO.

didn't GameSpot say something about Microsoft making a reworked 360 controller for SF3? Is it the one that looks more like a Genesis controller?

The left stick works well enough, but I would highly recommend getting an arcade stick for it. Either way, there's no reason for a casual player to pick this game up when they can just get SFII from the arcade.
