To be honest, I find the Xbox controller works grand. Its not perfect butworks fine for me 95% of the time.
Ive heard good things about the MadCatz fightpads and joysticks but im happy enough with the xbox pad.
I wouldnt be put off the game worrying about the controllers, its a really great game and if you have any experience with the series before, im sure you will really enjoy SF4.
I was thinking the same as you because i heard on the net that the D-Pad sucks for SF4 so i wasn't sure if i purchased it. I decided to get the game along with the Fight Pad but the problem is that the Gamepad comes out on the 15. April where i live. I decided to buy the game and preorderd the Fight pad. I went home and tried out the game even though i don't have the controller yet and i was surprised how well it works with the standard xbox 360 controller even though i'm not using the D-Pad.
I'd suggest you try the standard controller first and then judge if you want to buy the Fight Pad. I can't say anything about the Fight Pad though since i get it next month =/
It's a fantastic Game btw, i never thought i could get addicted to Beat em ups but i can't put down the Controller once i started playing SF4.
But what about the OFFICIAL Street fighter controller??? the one with the ryu design on it...bigbon_basic
The Madcatz stick IS the official Street Fighter pad made along with Capcom.
I bought the stick yesterday and so far I'm finding I was doing better with the original controller.

Hes probably talking about the Street Fighter CONTROLLER, not the Mad Catz FIGHT STICK. And if you are talking about the stick, then by all means.. it is worth every penny.xbox stock controller works great for me using the analog sticks. no problems at all with specials or anything else. feels like playing SF2 on the old SNES pad if you have any experience with that (with the analogs sticks added, the 360 d-pad is useless, unresponsive for game). listen to Dave_442 and dont put off getting the game due to the controller. game is awesome and its really all personal preference. i have never had much problem going back & forth between stick & controller so its never been much of a concern, but i have played this game on almost every system. i probably prefer the stock controller over anything else though, but i like my lights on the bumpers and throw, heavy on the triggers.

What he said...
But on the off note for a second: Seriously, Is street fighter 4 worth the 60bux??? Is it a better fighter than virtua fighter 5??? Is it as fun as the old skool street fighters???bigbon_basicIt's far better than Virtua Fighter in my opinion
Personally I like them both (VF5 and SFIV) for diff. reasons. I'd have to say they are interchangable as 1 and 2 on my fighting game list. As for the Madcats SFIV pad. I've been switching back and forth between the pad and the standard controllers analog since the game came out. At first I'd have said the analog was far better, but... in the last day or two i've actually had better thoughts on the madcats controller.
Honestly at this point i'd say they are about tied. One problem I still have with the madcats controller though is that sometimes I still feel I'm missing moves I shouldn't be. But again, that's down from what I would have said a week ago. I guess it may be true that i'm getting more used to the pad, still isn't a perfect one though... Bummer.
Hey man I like the 360 controller alot :(. Made it my console of choice.
Regarding the Mad Catz controller... Ask yourself, have you ever bought a Mad Catz product and later thought "yes, that was a wise investment"?
Sorry, actually shoulda been more specific. i meant the Dpad specifically. The rest is fine. But in SF you see the D pad is vital and is a game breaker.Hey man I like the 360 controller alot :(. Made it my console of choice.

I honestly havent had a problem with the D-pad on the stock 360 controller. Ive been using it since I got the game and in my opinion it works just fine. Granted there is the odd time il try throw a fireball or something and jump halfway across the screen but id say 95% of the time it works great. Ive won plenty of matches online and completed a good few of the trial challenges..
Saying that though I kinda grew up playing street fighter games with dodgy third party controllers (they were much cheaper). maybe i developed some kinda tolerance to crappy d-pads or something:P
To the guy asking if the game is actually worth the 60 bucks, id say it definitely is, however, if your that worried about the d-pad and whether you will like it just rent it and see how you get on?
