now i dont have to worry about the sh*t disc drive failing after an hour, it can just purr silently as it does with dvd's YES!!! Thank you microsoft, the console you made may be cheaply assembled, but at least you are man enough to compensate for it with these installs!, this way, as long as i dont get RROD, i wont have to replace my 360!!!!

So does this mean you can just rent a game, intsall it in your hard drive, return it and still have a copy of the game? Will you have to have the disc to start the game? How is this going to work? Would I just be able to borrow a friends copy of a game and install it into my 360, no strings attached?

You'd rather pay $150 for a hard drive? I think the proprietary hard drive they use was a HUGE mistake considering that MS is advertising all these new downloads and such. Who wants to pay for that much for a 120gb? At least the 'other console' allows you to upgrade your hd yourself. I wonder if we'll hear any price drops or something on the MS hd.

yeah same here but i would much rather pay 150 bucks than have to wait for my xbox to return from repairs for a month while a ton of games come out or CONSTANTLY worrying if my 360 is gonna start choking more than giraffe that accidentally swallowed tarzan's monster c*ck.

I like the idea. It might solve what I just went through. I kept getting the disc unreadable message on my 360. Its basically a disc failure. By putting the game on your hard drive and playing it from there.....I guess you can ease up on your disc drive. Thats a great Idea.

hey, i was just thinking....say we install it on our HD, then go to play the game at a later date. Wouldnt it be loading from the disk when we go to play it? what would stop it from reving up and playing from the disk when we put the game in?

It's all about load times. They will be shortened considerably without having to read the disc all the time.

The disc in the disc tray wont spin and it cuts down on load time.

Will we have the option of whether or not it will install to the harddrive for those of use with almost full 20gb drives. If not, this feature will all but force players to upgrade to new hardrives.

No, this will be optional. Not everyone even has an HDD.

Yeah. I'll probably install some games that I play the most, and then I don't install the ones that I play just once in a while. Actually it's quite handy... HOPEFULLY MOH AIRBORNE WOULD NOT LOAD SO LONG!!!:P ...I don't play it so much anymore anywayz... But it's a fun game hehe.. But the loading times..... Awwww maaannnn....

That and it will lengthen the life of your console because it wont have to work as hard, and Im guessing it will also sound quieter, like playing a demo *drool*

this will be like the PS3. u wait forever to instal the game, then it saves you time in the long run (shorter load times). but the 360 will have this as an OPTION, since M$ was stupid and released the "arcade" 360 w/o a Hard drive.

not that exciting if u ask me. it's just consoles becoming more like PCs. Just wait they will release a full size keyboard and mouse for the 360 soon enough. but you'll have to use the MS brand. they wont allow generic 3rd party keyboards or mice. lol

Anyone have a clue on how much space it'll take to install a game on the HDD? I don't have my 360 right now (getting fixed) and I have about 13Gb of free space on my HDD.

according to

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/07/18/almost-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-xbox-experience/

Devil May Cry 4 was 5gb and it took only 10 minutes to install. on the PS3...it takes 18-25 minutes, but my question is what is gonna stop the disk drive from reving up when we go to put the game disk in.

Did you not read the previous posts? The disc will be required to be in the drive when you play it. Otherwise, obviously there would be a lot of "borrowing" going on.

Only if it actually speeds things up unlike with the PS3. I bet if you added up the load times for DMC4 on the 360 it would be less than the install time for the PS3 version.

no its not a soldering issue. its Microsoft's software not recognizing the hardware. Like you cant stream video from an IPOD, but you can from a Zune . Because the Zune is a MS product and Ipod is not. and im sure 3rd party peripherals will come out anyways. just not 3rd party HDD.........cuz M$ is greedy.
