I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to do very well EVER in this game. Except maybe on FFA.

I'm just dissapointed because I continuously get killed by campers, people shooting me in the back, random nades, etc.

If anyone has any advice, then please help! All my friends play this game and it is disheartening to literally hear "you suck".

Should I just keep trying or what? I'm usually good at FPS on consoles, but with this game, it just seems there are so many places to hide.

Any help or advice to improve my game is much appreciated. :P

Quick notes, MP5, M16, the only two weapons you need. Don't ever camp unless your pulling a clutch on search. Check all your corners, work on aim. Learn to use that radar, always be glancing at it, ALL THE TIME. When you hear shots glance at the radar, it will save your life like crazy. Hope some of this helps..

it's a good idea to stay in one area of the map instead of running around too much, this will stop some of the random deaths.

Yeah, it'll take you a little bit to get used to it, but then you'll learn the maps and when someone shoots and you see a red dot on the corner of the mini map, you'll know exactly where they are, you can also learn common paths of people. Just takes a while, maybe a prestige or 2 and you got it.

that's a good point. I started out playing only team deathmatch and free for all, so I am used to being mobile. But since all my friends play search and destroy, it all seems so mythodical

Yes, learn to use Red Dot M16 red dot mp5, UAV jammer is pub star, stick with stopping or jugger. People will call you a noob for using the m16 or juggernaut, but there just to dumb to realize it works best. x3 stun/RPG/x3 Frag are your friends, if you really want to play with other guns, play with out bandoiler(so spelled that wrong) and pick up guns. Pick up any gun as long as it replaces your hand gun.

Good to know I'm not the only one. Hit me up and we can suck together. I need some moral support to hold my tongue on these underage a-holes. I love playing online but dear god it is discouraging. No lie literally in the first 20 minutes of playing I got a message from some kid with the following quote "u suk dik." I wouldn't take it seriously but he's obviously important. You can tell by his spelling. He must have been late for a meeting or date based on the fact that he decided typing the letter "c" twice would simply take too long ;). Anyone on here who wants to play seriously while maintaining a healthy care free attitude hit me up. Gamertag is hemeanswell.

there's your problem...it's all about radar, radar, RADAR...same goes with halo 3 and such

as soon as someone activates the radar, look at it and study it, if they're not moving, they are probably camping...learn where, throw nade and go in hot

All my friends had this game for months before I got it and were tenth prestige mainly, but as soon as I started playing with them I began to improve. With experienced players telling you the do's and don'ts you'll improve in no time. For starters use an M16, it'll kill in a full 3 shot burst with stopping power and is a good starting point if you want to start to do better. As you progress I find it better to have a fully automatic gun though which is why I use the AK-47 mainly but it's all on preference.

(if all else fails mod the hell out of your pad and turn the G3 into a fully automatic beast, it seems to be what some people do to win )

i had the same problem, but then i made a stealth class

MP5. Scilencer, Brandolier, UAV Jammer, and Steady Aim.

once you get the hang of sneaking around and enemy and firing at their flank, firing at them directly gets easier.

People will say use the M16, but have some integrety and dont use a noob gun. Try the AK-47 or something

If the reasons you listed that you're getting owned REALLY are the reasons you suck, then play one of the mission based mode or team tactical. But if those are just lame excuses, then you're just going to get owned until you keep practicing and get better.

I've been mostly playing COD 5 online, but went back with a few friends a couple of days ago onto COD 4, seriously its unplayable. It never used to be bad at all, but all of a sudden the online is just shocking. I literally walked around in the open one map and never saw one of the opposite team, just got shot in the back, campers, claymores etc.
My advice is to go with COD5 or wait for COD:MW2.

Stopping power is more effective on guns like the M16 because it will kill in a 3-shot burst to the body, it is useless in Hardcore mode though because most guns kill in a couple of bullets so take UAV Jammer for Hardcore; it is ESSENTIAL. As for Double Tap I prefer it on weapons like the AK-47, it's total preference, just experiment with different combos :)

I use the m16 on most modes and map, unless a map is more "close range", then ill use the mp5. I tend to always use the red dot site, and occasionally the uav jammer. I also use extreme conditioning.

I tend to run a lot, and that is probably a problem (unless i'm using the jammer)

Great advice here, chap. The radar is the key to succesfull gameplay; not only does it help attack but it can be used to defend also.

I was going to suggest guns but chl, here, took the letters right off my keyboard. I would recommend getting friendly with the M16 first, though, as it is extremely accurate.
And for pete's sake pre-aim with your hub (cross in the middle of your screen). I've seen beginners aiming there hub facing down not noticing. Get out of this habbit.

I think with a game such as fast-paced as this, you just need to play, play and play more. You'll build up techniques.
Sheesh. I've been playing this game far too long haven't I?

The red dot sight can help a lot with certain weapons.

Make sure you aim down the sight when you have your reticule about where you want to shoot. It takes to long to look around when your constantly ADS.

Shotgun sucks in every map except vacant and wetwork.

Get to know the maps and hiding places.

Use the desert eagle as your secondary weapon for every class as soon as you get it.

My favorite weapons are M16A4, P9000, Barret .50 cal(almost always one hit kill with stopping power), and RPD(at least until you get grip)

you should be good after you get a ways into your 1st prestige, mostly everyone is awful till they are done with their first 55, after that you will start to get a feel where people will be and you wll know which places to go to get the most kills. I'm on my 7th prestige, and I pretty much got it on lockdown.

Best thing to do is try to remember the spawn points of the maps, and keep flanking the spawns as soon as possible. It was the same as COD2, soon as people got the hang of realising where people spawned you could just choke each pathway from it if you positioned the team correctly. M16/Red Dot Sight/Stopping Power and extra grenades are the best perks for all round. You can snipe really easy with the M16 to, just go in a good building or cover and pick people off, will get you to the top of the board in no time.

How can anyone suck at CoD4? The game takes so little skill that it basically plays itself.

Well I got tired of running around, killing 1 guy and then getting shot in the back, and people constantly just rushing and killing and then getting killed, and rushing and getting killed...and on and on and on. SOOOOOO thats why I play search and destroy ONLY. Hardcore of course. There is a lot more statagy and if you are not good at shooting, then you can make up for it by planitng the bomb or guarding the target. I feel it is a lot more tactical and fun when people take every life serious. No one wants to sit there and wait for 2 minutes, so people play more like they would in real life. Get good at planting claymores to cover your back, have UAV jammer, and extreme conditioning. I often hear opponents that I kill say "How the heck did you get there so fast"? after the match ends. Also, dont run out and get gernaded off the start of the match, trust me people DO know where you are most likely to run, and WILL nade you with their eyes closed. If you have some friends that are pretty good and you all party up, then play hardcore search you will have a blast.

its probably over 11, i mean the game takes no skill so the only times he would die is by 6 consecutive air strikes, and that barely kills him

When I watch my friend play that online, he usually lasts for about ten seconds each life. I could never get into the online play in COD4.

Do not run and gun that is what far too many people do. Only run and gun if you are good. I would say lay back and take cover and then advance. Too many people also run out in the open to get killed within seconds.

Yes, there are difficult things to over come like people who spam nades, use noob tubes, and camp. Be sure not to sprint into the open/around corners blindly. I used to really suck too, it takes awhile to get the hang of it

If you have some friends that are pretty good and you all party up, then play hardcore search you will have a blast.linktheworld

good point. I have been naded several times within 10 seconds of the match. But i've from observing those on my team, im getting better at throwing them myself.

Oh, and an update, I've been doing much better from everyones advice. Especially on maps with snipers. Right when I hear a sniper I see where they are in the distance and can be sure to avoid the area. I've also come to notice what many of you said will happen. I'm much more aware of my surroundings and having UAV jammer is a total lifesaver.

thanks

Maybe try starting with M16 with stopping power and deep impact because it will make getting kills easier, just stay at it.

Everyone sucks right away. Play more. Takes a long time to get good but it's so worth it to kill campers

I know how you feel mate. I've had this game since Xmas 2007 and haven't reached first prestige yet (I'm only rank 30). For the first 4-5 months of owning this game I played online a lot, but struggled to get more than around 8 kills per game. I don't play on it much now, but I find I have good games and bad games. I don't think I am bad at the game online; I don't have much time atm to play games because I am right in the middle of exams and have been preparing for them for the last 2 months.

I was pretty bad too when I started, but I wouldn't worry about it, you'll get better. Just and example, when I started playing I was lucky to get 7-8 kills in a game on team deathmatch. Now I play mostly headquarters because I really like king of the hill game types, but the other day on ambush I had 53 kills and the next closest was like 37 so I've gotten quite a bit better. But then you have to deal with the idiots who get mad when you do good, like right after that game I had some guy send me a message calling me a noob...wtf???lol
