no the play and charge cable just charges the batteries it does not create a USB connection

you mean using the play and charge kit like a usb cable? That wont work it can only charge the controller. You have to buy that wireless receiver in order to use wireless 360 controllers with pcs.

MS makes a pc adapter for the 360 controller that u can buy separately.

The downside to the wireless receiver is that it's no longer in production - the official one is only available now by buying the PC 'bundle' that includes a wireless controller and the adapter. EBay is full of receivers that are Chinese knockoffs, and I've heard reports that they work fine and that some of them just crap out upon plugging them in. I love the adapter, though, easiest way to get a bunch of gamepads working on the PC plus you can also use the wireless racing wheel if you want.

just get a regular wired controller and it will work fine with the pc. usually if you go to game exchange they have some for cheap.
