I've always kept my 360 in top shape. Well ventalated areas, moderate playing time. ugh, i just can't believe that it died on me. well, it hasn't died, but it is no longer reading games, CD's, or DVD's, even though my HD-DVD add-on still works. I just can't believe after all the time and money i've put into my 360 it has to stop reading discs on me, at the most desperate time i need it too, the halo 3 beta.

anyone have any suggestions or comments before i decide to send my 360 to the shop? any help would be great

From all the posts I see about this, I would say 'join the club' Luckily my release date X360 is still going strong.

Sorry dude.

seriously, whats with like every 360 that isnt launch day to the elite die?  I was made fun of cause my launch day 360 sounds like an airplane taking off, BUT NOW I HAVE THE LAST LAUGH MWAHAHAHAHAAH....but anyway, it could just be pulling a PS2 and has a dirty lens, If you feel like voiding the warranty to try this, you can try cleaning the lens, but i doubt it's that simplistic, so just send it away.

I didn't think it was going to happen to me but it died like five mins ago. I was playing Gears of War earlier and it was working fine. Now the ring of death showed up. Now I'm sort of mad and sort of not. Cuz with the Xbox out of the way I'll be able to pass all of my exams. It started freezing in Aegis Wing like twenty times so I knew I couldn't avoid the inevitable.

I'm still on my first 360 and I made my mind up a while ago, that if my 360 breaks I'm going to buy a PS3 and wait till 360 gets cheaper and more reliable, but so far so good *knock on wood*. I'd recommend the same thing.

Yeah, it really sucks when the reality sinks in. Join the club. You're not truly baptized until your first 360 crashes, heh heh.  Just make sure you send it in while your warranty is still intact. Mine died 2 weeks after the warranty lapsed. Now I'm stuck with a $140 repair bill for thinking my 360 would run fine for atleast a couple years, impervious fool that I am. Seems everyone I know has had serious issues with their 360 as well. This can't be  normal for a console to have this many cases of malfunction. It's only a matter of time before Microsoft gets sued over this and rightfully so. Extending their warranty from 90 days to a year deserves credit, but it doesn't get them off the hook.

Tough luck dude. Launch day consoles are the way to go. Mine took a 1 meter acid drop onto a solid floor and works better than before! No excess sound from the fan and the tray opens smoother than ever. I had the same problem with my PS2 and from what you've said, I'm guessing it's the lens. You have two options, send it off to MS but I hope it's still under warranty because they know how to hit up your wallet good. Option B is to take it to a certified-black market- mod chip installing- son of a gun who knows how to replace the lens. It'll be much cheaper but your console may end up only playing Sega 32X games. The choice is yours.

Do you mean all the posts you see in the sticky thread devoted to this issue? Because that's where this should be, TC. And you'd probably find your answer there, instead of it being handed to you.

it sounds like the dvd drive is stuffed... some dirt probably got into it somehow but call customer support about it.Â
