They obviously have a very different taste from me

bold = gamespot , normal = me

Blue Dragon 6.0 - 9.0

Mad Tracks 4.6 - 9.6

They gave shenmue bad scores too - and also they give crappy games higher scores like metroid prime and the new zelda

I tend to agree with them. You should find a site that makes better recommendations for your tastes.

Yes, they have a different taste then you, it's called an opinion. And those "crappy" games that GS gives high scores (Metroid and Zelda) deserved WAY higher then what they got, but hey, that's just my opinion.

So don't pay attention to them. Everybody is entitled to their opinions.

Honestly mate, people have different opinions. Despite some horrible scores on GS' part they still manage to be extremely informative and allow me (as well as other readers) to formulate their own opinion on the game.

yeah pretty much, I thought that Zelda: Twilight Princess was a 9.4 atleast, it got 8.8 here, Gears of War got 9.6, and it's a 9.3 max IMO, but we have to deal with it ;)

I consider the numerical to be an annoying add-on that doesn't leave people to use common sense and actually bother to read the review. I actually like the new review system, the pros and cons system is very intuitive and I like seeing the icons. I even think that moving up to .5's is tolerable since I don't care too much about the score, I care about the meat of the review.

I have problems with reviews in general since your own personal tastes dictate so much of how you like any product. I tend to just read the reviews and watch the videos to make up my mind, the new scores especially are meaningless for the most part. I just know anything below 7 isn't worth considering.

Funny thing is for a couple years, I really liked games that were rated 8.8 for some reason, didn't like games between 8.9-9.4, and loved anything >= 9.5. That was the only time the numbers actually meant anything haha.

I actually agree with most of Gamespots reviews, much more so than IGN, 1UP or even OXM.

I believe the major sites are paid to give positive reviews. It's all about marketing and reviews are a part of the hype building. Blue Dragon was never really marketed as such.

I tend to agree with most of Gamespot's reviews. They are critics and they are good at what they do, but if you don't support alot of their ideals, then you might want to find another group of critics who have similar tastes as you.

Its okay to be a harsh scorer. But when you are inapprioprately harsh then it is a crime. How does Dynasty warriors Gundam get a better score the lair? something is obviously off. How does Bioshock get a better score then gears of war, zelda, all the GTAs, Metal gear solids, Mario games, metroid games? Bioshock is at best an 8! Really the game is "fear" meets "resident evil". Gamespot and IGN are way off these days. They need to fire alot of these reviewers. YOu have to be consistent.

If you're referring to Gamespot's Bioshock Review, you're way off.

Bioshock = 9.0

Gears of War = 9.6

GTA San Andreas = 9.6

And secondly... http://www.gamespot.com/misc/reviewguidelines.html

"Every gaming platform is different, especially in terms of its technical features. However, we believe high-quality gaming experiences are possible on all the gaming platforms that we cover. So we review games against the standards of their respective platforms by implicitly comparing them to other games on that same platform and, to a lesser extent, to other games in that genre. As a result, our ratings of games on different platforms are not intended to be directly compared to one another. However, relative comparisons do apply, so a game that scores poorly is a poor game by any standards, while a game that scores extremely high is an outstanding game by any standards."

they're usually pretty spot on, andsometimesjust a little off on what I think about a game, but sometimes they go waaaay off, like with Lair.
