Call of Duty 2 was a fun FPS. Call of Duty 3 was, also, a fun FPS, but it didn't do much to break away from it's predecessor.

When it was announced that CoD 4 would be a modern shooter, I wasn't exactly blown away. The WW II formula was beginning to show it's age, but this transition to modern warfare is like...well, it's like stepping out of the oven and into the freezer. Quite a few modern shooters have already been released, and although Modern Warfare looks to be a good one, it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I would love to hear your opinions on this, and would love it if you'd convince me other wise, because I love me some CoD, but I'm a little put off by #4.

Call of Duty 4 is the only game this year that I would give up Halo 3 for.

It used to be the biggest World War 2 franchise and it was huge then. Now that its moved out of WW2 and into Modern War, it deserves the hype.

There has already been a billion WWII games released as well. When a company known for making high quality WWII games steps into the modern age after 6 or so years then you expect there to be some hype surrounding it due simply to the drastic change in everything.

I suppose, but Modern Warfare has been attempted before in different games. Why are you excited about this one? Is it because the franchise has proven itself to be great and hence you feel that the next installment will continue trend?

Let me better phrase my question. Is there any new feature in this Call of Duty game that makes you want to buy it?

Rewind, I could care less about this game. In no way am I excited for this lol. I'm just saying what I suppose is going through others minds. I mean seriously, let's say this exact same game, graphics and all, was released by another company with just the name "Modern Warfare." Who would honestly give this game a 2nd thought? It's sort of like you said. Because it has Call of Duty attached to the name people assume it will be a good quality game just like the others in the series because they haven't been letdown before, so why expect it now?

If you're a doubter of Callof Duty 4, then check out the latest videos and coverage that IGN released a couple of days ago, I wasn't excited before, but after seeing it and the description of customization in multiplayer, I'm really pumped for it.

I second the TC's opinion. I haven't seen anything from Call of Duty 4 vids or write-ups to justify the hype the game is getting. I mean it looks great, but so far that's the only thing that stands out. I'm much more excited for Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Mario Galaxy this holiday season.

i dont see the big hype... plus from what i've seen, they keep milking the same game just as EA is doing with madden every single year... so much for COD 2 & 3....

The COD games have always had excellent gameplay and a very good atmosphere to the whole game. The COD games made by Infinity Ward never disappointed , so I doubt this one will.

A very good game that is not disappointing is one thing, but some people are trying to make Call of Duty 4 out to be some GOTY candidate and I don't see where the hell they are getting this from.

Ok people love COD for its gameplay, but now they're not only upgrading the graphics because its going to take place in the present, but they are also adding brand new present day weapons, and a new story that not everybody knows the end to like they do with WWII its just going to be a whole new awesome expierience.

They deserve the hype for having the decency to let WWII die and move on to something else. It'll still be CoD, just with modern toys and settings.

I am looking foward to COD4 because of all the modern stuff that is coming out and the multiplayer looks great too + the graphics are good, some of my friends think it will be rubbish because they are taking a step foward into the present but i think it will be a good idea because it gives the players something new.

If you don't understand the reason for the hype you need to read a few more articles and do a bit more digging.

At E3 alone it grabbed the follow awards.

Why bother comparing Bioshock to anything? You know that Bioshock outclasses pretty much anything, even very good games like Call of Duty. next thing you know, people are going to try to convince us all that Stranglehold is the GOTY again...

Infinity Ward have said that this is the game they always wanted to make.........I don't want to miss out on that. Some people don't understand the hype and that is totally cool. From what I've seen of it, I understand why so many people are highly anticipating it.

Why am I excited? Because it looks better than Gears and runs at double the framerate. The online play has cool character customization (you choose between different abilities) and the graphics are some of the most detailes on any console game to date (you can check the in game time by looking at anyNPC's watchand when in the sunlight players will visibly sweat, for example.)Game Trailers voted it best looking game at E3, for what it's worth. I am super-stoked.

I don't understand the hype around halo 3. But it's still getting it.

The perks system willl put a good twist on the MP in Call of duty. It's something that hasn't been done by any shooter for the most part.

That game is going to be awesome!!! I think people who aren't excited about this game haven't played the multiplayer in the call of duty series... Call of duty 3 is by far my funnest game online at the moment. (distant second: Graw 2). Seriously, great maps, tons of options for gameplay (medic, sniper, assault...)... No wait what soever, unlike graw2 or rainbow six vegas for example, you can jump in any game wether it started or not.... oh and yeah, the graphics looks amazing too!!! These guyes managed to make significant graphical improvement in each call of duty 2, 3 and soon 4 on one single machine! (360). Call of duty 4 looks gorgeous, and yes that's another reason waiting for it!!! To conclude, I think its a good thing halo3 is coming out before...

understand that call of duty 2 helped sell xbox 360 when it first came out because it was the best shooter for the console at the time and uhh PEFFECT DARK at that time was over HYPED and as we all know did nothin to live up to the 64 version.. call of duty 3 was not made by the same people as 2... and honestly man if call of duty 4 is gettin awards from e3 ...and so far there are no complaints about the beta...expect it to be great...the beta IMO looks superior to the halo 3 single player screenshots and videos we seen..and to help my opinion it recieaved awards for its grapchics and just being a shooter
