ppl say their discs drives aren't opening or closing properly or aren;t reading discs or they don't work and other ppl say to send it in to ms. isn't that not covered by ms, only the rod is by the 3 yr warranty?
It's kind of odd. Everywhere I've read it says the 3 year warranty is covered for 3 rings only.. But when I phoned Xbox Support & told them my 360 tray wouldn't open, they sent me out a box and it will be fully repaired for free.

EDIT: does the first year of the 3 yr warranty cove rthe whole system maybe?

I think this is just Microsoft protecting their necks, because its annoying, I get the damn disk read error almost every day sometimes multiple times on games that are not scratch or smudged and even brand new ones like NCAA 08 when I first got it about after an hour of playing it, after the play was over and it was going back to the play menu it totally stpped and brought up the error message. And I heard that the disk read error stuff is a sign of the red ring, the more and more you get it, the closer you are to the red ring.
i called microsoft yesterday out of curiosity, and they told me that you have a 1 yr FULL placement warranty, and a 3 yr warranty for the RRoD problem....plus, you have the option to purchase any extended warranties at whichever place you purchased it from...
