I still have the original Xbox 360 at launch, and for the past 3 days I've been playing Star Ocean for about 9 hours straight a day. My Xbox is doing fine and I will soon put it through an even more lengthy task when Resident Evil 4 comes out. My and my friend will probally clock in about 7 hours, pause, go grab some taco bell and un-pause and play for another 8 hours.

I don't get how people go through 3 or 4 Xbox 360.

You're a lucky one, 40% of launch consoles will get it, most don't in other words but it's always more vocal on the internet

Yeah, friend has two of them. One is actually sitting inside of an entertainment center. We would clock about 6-7 hours a night most nights playing on Live with both of them before I moved away.

They still get action, and they're still not dead :)

As everyone else says your a lucky one, I know because I had my X360 from release as well and it only just died on me the start of 2009...I was *. It eventually happens anyway you just got to give your X360 some more time and it will be dying of Red Light Syndrome soon, don't you worry.

Not really up to the user, it's when the system decides to break. I doubt people purposely try to get the RROD. But good for you though, you've got a nice 360 there.

If the RROD is so bad why are people still receiving Xenon refurbished console back. You would have thought that those old parts would have ran out long ago. I have never received the RROD either in over 3 years of use!

My xbox is over 3 years old and I haven't had the RROD yet *knocks on wood*.

How can you play for 7 hours straight? You need to get out more.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to get me voodoo 360 doll and put the curse of RROD on it for your console. Moohahaha. Just joking. I'm on my 2nd one and it has a XEON chip so its just a matter of time I guess.

Wait a minute. Did you cut a hole in your 360 shell and then but a patch over it or something to prevent it from overheating? If so that's a good idea.

the ring of death is not always a hardware problem it could be that the supply power is on the floor and that its to hot or that theres not anough electricity coming from the extention lead. also the plug may have come out the socket a mm.

Your lucky. I had my xbox die that I'd had for a year die Jan. of last year. The refurb I got back was made before my original one but it has just passed the year mark of me owning it. Since then I've only had one problem a few months back where to CD drive wouldn't close and I had to crack it open and glue the magnet in the drive back down in the spindle. Now the fans seem to be making a weird noise that just started a week or so ago, maybe it's time I should start investing in a new Xbox fund :P.

Your one of the lucky ones that haven't had their launch console die. Consider yourself very lucky, but don't dismiss our problems. My march 06 console has RROD'd twice and I maybe put in 20 hours a week on it. Every person I know with a launch console has had it RROD at least once.

you are a lucky one... i got my xbox a year ago and i hardly played it and i just got the RROD. i actually got it like a month ago but i was allowed to play it. when i turned it off i had to let it sit for a few hours then play it again. so i just kept it on until i could play it and turn it off when i went to bed. but soon... very very soon you will get it...

I cut a hole in it, I wanted to add a fan but seeing how fast the fan spins, it would just disrupt the air flow in the back. The hole does not matter because I played the Xbox 360 without the patch to keep dust out and I touched the heat sink, the heat sink gets REALLY REALLY hot. To the point where it can burn you. So I don't think it matters.

Also, I actually want to get Red Ring of Death on this console, but just by normal play. I have another Xbox 360 Falcon set as a gift still in its box. I told my friend when RE FIVEEEEE comes out, lets try to get Red Ring and not turn this console off for a week.

Well, there's so many reasons. One is that Microsoft makes millions of consoles, so not every console will be perfect. The first batch of consoles had a high rate of errors.

I've on my 5th Xbox 360 now. And I still have fate in Microsoft since they do repair it for free, and I've also got a free games (not great ones, but the're free) and extra month of free Xbox Live GOLD membership.

I've only gotten the RRoD once. All the other times I've had to send in my console it was because of disc drive related problems.

I bought my Elite in October 07 and it died on me last month. Sent it in a couple weeks ago so I'm hoping it'll be back by the end of next week.

Yeah. That's pure luck. Peoples 360s got the RROD, not because they were abusing them (although I'm sure some people did) but because they were made poorly.

Well I can reasonably assume that hole in the middle of your 360 didn't come from the factory like that, so that is no doubt helping in keeping your unit cooler. Also, it was a fairly well known design flaw that contributed to a bulk of 360 RRoD's. At least each successive revision of the console has actually improved in addressing this.

Just sent my system back to Microsoft for the second time. I get sick and damn tired of people who have not experienced it running their mouths. It's real, it happens, and there is nothing you can do about it. Microsoft is trash, plain and simple. (Xbox, Zune, Vista). I am a very happy Mac owner and might be a PS3 owner soon, I hope someone sues the hell out of Microsoft over the Red RIng.

Thats pretty impressive.

I take care of my 360, I try and use it only for 2-3 hours at a time and I never use it for watching dvd movies, so I can try and keep it fresh :)

But... I bought my 360, december 2007, and September last year I had my first RROD. It then went for the repair center. I got it back, and 14 days later, I got the RROD again.

Now, It has lasted so far without a third RROD, but, last week I sent it back to the repair center, because my 360 had started making some very loud noices that I dont think was very healthy :)

So, hopefully Microsoft has learned from the 360 for their next console, and also adding full BC with old games, then they could have the ultimate console on their hands.

Only happened to me once, which was early in the summer and probably won't happen to me again anytime soon because they sent me a new console, and I was told that the new consoles have been designed to prevent this from happening again.

The new consoles are as likely to fail as the old ones.
