buy a new xbox 360. swap out your bad one for the new one. return it 30 minutes later. Of course, you'll have to come up with the 400 plus 50 for tax. you shouldnt have to pay to have a DEFECTIVE product fixed.

Bad idea. Most stores check serial numbers on returned electronics. You can get in some serious trouble attempting this.
when i bought my 360 they took the number from the machine and wrote it in the receipt so i u would wanna return i, the number on the receipt should match the one on the console...so no swap....don't know if u lied or the person who u returned to is very stupid
The people at my Walmart dont search crap. The key is to go to a customer service people not electronics, because the customers service people have no idea about serial numbers, or Xbox 360s.

Sure except in the real world we have a thing called a serial number.
Sell it on ebay. i did that for mine. i forgot how much i sold it for but it was over $100 console only. then buy a new console only on ebay. you'll lose money of course but probably not close to $140.
The out come may depend on how long you have had you 360 but this is what you do, call 18004myxbox and after they take you through the regular troubleshooting you tell them , in a firm but professional tone, how highly disappointed you are about this console that you spent your hard earned money on. If the Rep that help you that answers the phone ask to speak with a supervisor and do the same thing. The worst case is you may still have to pay but you may get a free game out of the deal. I had my first 360 for a year and a month and they didn't charge me and I got a free wireless controller.

my friends have done this, many people do this. walmart highers special ed employees and they barely know how to do their job right. they do not check the serial numbers inside the box and on the receipt. they just assume you did it honestly. and if they do say anything be like oops that must be the wrong one. no way you can get in trouble. and if your using the swap method use cash becuase they can trace credit card information down they line if they needed to.

I work at walmart. If you don't have a receipt for the 360 you CAN'T exchange it without a reciept, at my walmart anyways. I tried taking mine there to exchange it and without a receipt you can't do it, due to the price point of the electronics device
