I was totally anticipating this game. It was #1 on my wishlist for 2 years. And then I read some player reviews(from Japan). From what I heard, it sucks. They say it's way to linear, shallow, easy, and there's no XP. Yeah, thats effing dumb. Why Squeenix? Why totally ruin a FF game? Hopefully it's not as bad as everyone's making it out to be.

You can find fan reviews that say any popular game is garbage and a blight on the industry.

I wrote a really detailed review on this game a little while back. I absolutely cannot agree that the game is either easy or shallow. You can read that review here:

I just looked up some more reviews and all of them scored it in the high 9's, with Famitsu in particular giving it 39/40! :o It was probably just the review you read has a lower than average score.

I too have read some stuff that has made me a little iffy about the quality of the game but I'd rather play it myself and see rather then just hearing it from someone else.

I think you are taking it too hard. Just my opinion, but if you love this series I would just stay away from the reviews and play it when it comes out. If nothing else, 1 point off of perfect from Famitsu is a damn good score - it's just probably quite disapponting for the developers that Bayonetta bested them and got a 40. But I think people seem to not put reviews in perpective, along with expectations. I have a feeling you will really enjoy it if you stop reading reviews and let what is left of a surprise, be a surprise.

I wouldn't take other peoples opinions on a game that serious, all this info on ffxiii outside of it being linear was known before the game came out, it goes to show you how gamers don't pay attention to things, Japs gamers cry over any change in any serious, they cried over ffxii and the direction it took, they cried over dqix when it was annouce it was a action rpg and not a turn base one (they change it back to turn base because of the outcry),personally I don't care, I will still pick up the game when it comes out and it is still my most wanted game.

My biggest concern is that it seems the area its most hurting is the storyline, and thats what was always what sold me on FF. Even the trailers make me cringe a bit at what seems like some terribly cheesy characters with questionable voice acting.

No, we will not have to wait and see. Its a pretty universal 'opinion' now that FFXIII is an 'extremely' linear game. There's almost no sidequests to speak of apart from some monster hunts, most of which dont open up until after you've beaten the game. And there's no towns or anything, either, which is lame.

My hype for this game has gone from 10/10 to maybe 6/10. Definitely nota first-day purchase for me, and a sharp blow to how I feel about where they're going with the franchise in general.

Boo, I say. BOOOOOO!!

FF7-10 are still some of my favourite games, I have never had a good feeling about the looks of ff13.

Never trust reviews of games, books, or movies. Especially fan reviews you find online. So subjective... Experience it yourself.
