I havent played it for about a week and today i decide to play some GRAW 2. In the middle of my game my screen froze and i had 3 flashing red lights. I called xbox and they told me that it would cost 150$ to get it repaired. Ive already had one xbox do this and now this one is about 5 months old. If anybody knows how to fix this problem please help because i truely do love my xbox, just not today.LILoj0508
They should have a 1 yr warranty if im not mistaken. "As a make-good, Microsoft extended the system's standard 90-day warranty to one year, and promised to reimburse all those customers who had already been made to pay for repairs. article here, as of april 07, "
I've tried every thing and it still hasnt worked. I got my first xbox on Dec 7 2005. It broke down about the end of may or the beggining of June. I called yesterday and the guy said my warranty expires on Dec 7 2006, so i guess i only had the warranty for the first one. Im just very pissed because i paid about 700 for the box and 100 for xbox live and i just bought GRAW 2 yesterday for 60. It really sucks to call them and they tell me i have to pay 139 to get it fixed, when i can get pne on ebay for about 200.

In the article on xbox.com it says that if you buy the 360 before they changed the warranty then you would have to pay for your first replacement but then the 360 they sent back to you would have the 1 year warranty on them.now i don't know when they changed the warranty but if you got the 360 before that then you are gonna have to pay.Â

Not trying to be funny, but awhile back, I remember seeing a vid on how to fix it, it's called the Towel Trick. Not sure if it's bull or not, but some people have actually reported that it actually fixed the problem, it's tempting, but I, perosnally wouldn't try it, but you could if you're desparate(150 bucks = ouch). The trick requires you to put the 360 in a towel for 15 mins while it's on(serious heating risk)
Â
PS: You should do some research on this trick before trying it, it could be a scam.Â
dude your supposed to keep the towels on for 30 min not 10 you posted at 3 47 and said it didnt work at 3 57
: ?
The reason why the towel trick works, so some of you know, is because the solder used for the GPU and CPU is of a lower grade (i.e. no lead) due to this piece of equipment being considered a "toy", and by law no toy can have lead as a component. When your x-box gets hot the motherboard begins to warp and the solder joint begins to liquidfy, making your chips pop off the motherboard and, eureka, red lights of death. The are only a few fixes that I know of to make this problem go away. One, the towel trick, but it is like everybody says its a temporary fix. It makes your xbox hotter than hell making the solder soft and complete the connection between the chips and the motherboard, but the three lights will be back. Two, find a repair guide online and remove the poor grade solder, however, this would void any warranty since you have to open your x-box. Three, wait and buy another. I would not suggest you buy an elite right now. They are still using some of the same components found in the older x-box 360's, but it is an improvement. I myself would wait and buy another xbox 360 when they have replaced the CPU which the newer ones will run cooler than the older style. But if your jones'n for your game fix, buy a repair guide and fix it yourself, they run anywhere between 2 and 5 dollars for some good information. jcshort
