You don't have to be plugged directly into a wall. I've used a high-end power strip with my 360 & haven't had any issues at all. Just don't use extension cords or really cheap power strips. I don't know about adapters though, it doesn't sound like a good idea. ColoradoKindBud
I've got no choice - the power strips require adapters. Maybe Microsoft got the wrong unit or maybe after a week of cooling off it works for a bit?

Oh, so let's say that I hypothetically have my 360 plugged into a power strip I've had for YEARS. I haven't had any problems at all with it, but it looks kind of cheap to me. Maybe it's just old. But this is all hypothetical of course......So in this hypothetical situation, what should I do?

How should I know? If it works good for you then you probably shouldn't sweat it.
