What I personally think is the best answer to Call of Duty is Battlefield: Bad Company. It's very different though; it's not as realistic as CoD 4 and not as quick-paced... the other downside is that the ranking system is very contradictory of CoD's (you could reach the highest rank in the game in under 2000 kills, and in about a week or so of solid playing). It also only has two game types, Gold Rush and the newly released "Conquest" mode (which I don't know much about since I'm on vacation and don't have my Xbox); playing the same mode over and over again gets repetitive but EA DICE managed to keep the experience fun and satisfying. Battlefield's certainly not as good as Call of Duty, but it's close... definitely something you should check out, at the very least.
What I'd recommend to that is Halo 3 (though I'm sure you've already played that). I'm guessing you don't/wouldn't like Halo though, because most of the people I know who play Call of Duty a lot don't like Halo much, or used to and ended up getting hooked on CoD. Still, though, despite its setbacks (which I think are very limited), it's a great game with a lot of replay value. Definitely something you can enjoy and play a lot.
Gears of War is good too, although it's in a whole 'nother genre than CoD (third-person), it's still a good game.
Or you could just wait for CoD: World at War and get hooked on that too... ;)
Seriously though, have a look at Battlefield at the least.
Wait, so to get away from one game you want to get addicted to another one? How about switching of your console and leaving the house for a while?nethernovanot to be mean, but this guys right. that's like saying i've been drinking too much Jack Daniels so i'm going to drink Southern Comfort instead.
