I was playing Team Fortress, an eight on eight match in Granary. I kept dying due to unlikely circumstances: Walk around a corner into a critical rocket after it missed somone else, get killed by someone who had three health left, lucky headshot by a sniper, that sort of thing. I was getting pretty pissed off. I got myself together, got the game under control, and was the number one scorer on either team. Then...the host shut the game down. I was not pleased.

Normally, I keep one of the broken controllers on hand to throw around; it wasn't nearby just now. The darn battery cases on 360 controllers break easily; at least, I break them easily. They're really thin plastic, compared to the rest of the controller, which is fairly robust. Two of my four destroyed controllers just need new battery cases.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to get VERY mad every time I played Halo (the immense amount of kill stealing and losing a game by one point so you basically wasted 20-30 minutes of your life for nothing), but I don't really get mad anymore.

I get annoyed sometimes, but never enough to throw a controller, never mind break it. You just need to remember that it's fun, even if you are losing. To quote monty python "Always look on the bright side of life" :)

My gamecube controller I'd throw and thanks to the wire it would kind of act like a choke chain and stop it cause I'd throw it down the hall.

My Xbox controller, I must be careful since it's wireless

Perhaps you should keep your medic a little closer to you. ;)

As far as my controllers, I have been through three. However, my dilemma is with the analog sticks not the battery casing.

No, I stomp

The only game I get mad at is MGO, because its way too easy to get a headshot. Yeah, its realistic but c'mon! You can just spray bullets and if youre aiming at their torso you could get a headshot.

I've been wondering if I could do that. Do they sell those anywhere?

Well where were you? Oh wait...you mean my medic in Team Fortress or like, my therapist? :P Nah, I'm kidding. I'm a picture of mental health, other than the broken controllers and heavy drinking.

This is how I lost one of my PS2 controllers. Since then, I've held back (with GREAT effort) from throwing my controller. I'm being held back by the fact that I don't have much money to spend on new hardware. :P

There are times when I lose it, though, and hit a wall with my fist. I never scream into the headset because I've come to realize that people who do it sound psychotic, although it's a semi-normal reaction. Getting killed by the same person OVER and OVER again in Call of Duty 4 is what really gets to me.

I tend to not break my $60 controllers, there's no point. When I'm angry at a game I normally just take it out on my bed or pillow, punching it and what not.

Don't laugh.

I used to beat up my couch with a spatula to relieve stress. At first, it's just to release suppressed anger but, after about 2 minutes, it actually gets fun. Of, course, no damage is done to the couch. It is a spatula.

And this after I made a comment about my neighbor and his bent golf clubs.

lol that's what usually stops me from throwing it when I get really mad!

It's also an advantage of a wired controller over a wireless one - the length of the cable limits the distance it can fly :D

My advice, don't throw your controllers.

I used to go through controllers like crazy. But now when ever I get annoyed I just turn off the game and collect myself. I just cannot enjoy the game if I am annoyed so might as well stop playing.

I've never thrown nor broken a controller. Not to say I haven't been frustrated though, I just express it more verbally in a series of screams, curses, and yelps.

Maybe you should stop having temper tantrums and throwing stuff, cause thats how online gaming works and being childish like that is no way to act especially for something that costs almost 50 bucks. I didnt even ever throw controllers and whatnot when i was a kid or teenager when i got mad, theres no excuse.

I spend a lot of time on a large post about Oblivion, and it dies in obscurity. I make an off-hand, humorous post about breaking my controllers, and it gets two pages in an hour. I've had a drink, so I'm going to go back to Team Fortress. Hopefully, things will go better this time; I only have two controllers left. I look forward to all the shared stories of gamer frustration and life advice that'll be waiting on this thread when I get back.

lol This is funny i just broke my controllers analog stick on my futon last week playing NCAA 08. I usually hit it on the cushion and all is well but this time i hit metal and for some reason that didn't give as well. Now I'm stuck with a wired controller. :(

I will never understand people who do crazy stuff like this.

I'm not adverse to punching the odd wall in rare bouts of frustration but not because of a video game (Ok maybe Ninja Gaiden) but I never ever throw expensive equipment around the room that's just foolishness. Who has money to throw away like that?! I sure don't. Each time you break a controller, that's another game you could've bought. Or a weeks food for one person.

If i'm getting tired of a game, or some bad stuff is happening in multiplayer the worst I might do is huck the controller down onto my bed, or into my lap. The first one allows me to walk away and go get a drink/whatever and cool off.

The second instantly dispells any anger I might have because I just hit myself in the balls with a controller.

Edit:

Every controller I have owned to this day that was not broken by accident (they can bounce off the bed sometimes.. woops) is as new. Which is why i'm so annoyed that I left one of my GC controllers around a friends because I absolutely refuse to play with bits of the analogue sticks peeling off, or buttons stuck, or.. teeth marks.

I've not been able to get a brand new GC controller, and unable to find my perfect one in that guys collection of stuff, meaning it probably got abused to all heck by him playing stupid bros melee.

I don't play games to get frustrated and angry. If a game is making me feel this way I quit playing it, at least for a little while. I don't believe I've ever thrown a controller. Sometimes I slap my knee, but that's about as intense as it gets.

Anger managment classes might be smart. I would hate to see what you might do to people in the same room as you if they beat you at monopolopy or something else equally as trivial as a VIDEO GAME.

Palantas

I have read quite a few of your posts, and you always seem so calm. Of course, I do not know you but, speaking in the sense that I drawing an impression of you based on a posting on a video game website, you do not seem the type to throw a controller.

I have never been much of a controller thrower. Personally, I often slam the control against my palms or squeeze it with a murderous intent, the like of which only GOD knows..
