Its diffrent on every game but ill explain it to you on gears on gears go to versus then player matchs have the second player hit Y he will get a menu to hit guest let him hit guest then just join a player match

i don't think he asked for that, he just wants to know how to set up xbox livr in general so he can then play gears online. So go to the dashboard and select join xbox live and use the free 1 month gold they give u with a new xbox, and then go buy a 12+1 xbox live card
So i just go to dashboard, use the free gold membership and hook up my computer. And once that is done should i buy an xbox live card, and if i should were can i get one.
i dunno what u mean by this whole computer thing u can set up an account on yur xbox, but u can get a xbox live card at gamestop, best buy, walmart, target, circuit city, or google it and find a good deal.
