I made the stupid mistake and bought a $100 250 gb hard drive thinking that you can download games and play them without a disk. Can someone help me and help me figure out how i can get my money back,i mean i already opened it but the box just has a little tear on it,if i put the harddrive with the plastic and inside the box with the little rip do you think i can return it to best buy,do you think gamestop will accept it for almost full price?

Best Buy almost always charges a "restocking" fee on returned items, no guarantee they will accept it at all though. Gamestop will not pay near new price for anything, not much money to be made in that strategy. Good luck.

Well, if you haven't used it at all, and you explain to Best Buy that you thought you needed it but discovered that you actually didn't, then they might be kind enough to give you all your money back. They might just give you in store credit, though, but I'm not sure. I can't even tell you when I was last at a Best Buy. But if they do, and you shop there a lot anyways, then I guess it's not really a loss. Sometimes it depends on who, exactly, is helping you out. As for GameStop, I doubt they would give you much more than half of what you paid for it. Maybe a little more. If you're really desperate to get all of your money back, why don't you try selling it on Ebay or Amazon marketplace or something similar? If it's all brand new and out-of-the-box spiffy (aside from the package tear thing) then you could market it as such and hopefully end up losing only ten or fifteen bucks. Or you could sell it to one of your friends, if any of them are looking for something like that. Best of luck! (And hey, we all do silly things sometimes.)

Umm Are you sure your bestbuy isn't just grabbing money out of you? I had to return maybe 4 things there because the product sucked (mostly routers) And they just gave me my cash back on the spot.

I don't understand your initial problem. Why can't you download games and play them?

I am guessing booomer means installing games. Because downloaded games don't need the disc, but installed ones do.

I think you mean installed games still need disks, i made the same mistake buying a bigger hard drive, renting a game, installing it, take the game back and hopefully play it even know i had no disk but installing only helps load times. Im pretty sure any game you download except for DLC's or betas will need the disc.

I still can't believe people do this?!?! No for-profit company in their right mind would allow you to do that...

Anyways, Best Buy is usually pretty good with returns, if you sweet talk them enough you can probably just return it for store credit at least.

pretty sure it's not a random occurence specific to my town's best buy. may depend on the type of item?

Exactly what I was thinking. Seriously use common freakin' sense. Not mention it would be morally wrong to be able to install games and then play them without the disk. That sounds like stealing.....however, downloading music is still ok.
