Thats the only reason I play this game now, its just got that boring, I just play it to pass random time and to get achievements, even when I am winning the game just gets frustrating and annoying mostly the bullet lag, that is the main reason every match turns into a shotty fest. The weapons in this game are rediculously powerful, and that is great, but you fire a shotty right at the guy at point blank range, and by the time the shot registers they have moved out of the way, the game is 90% internet connection and luck. And the whole host thing is just rediculous, if you say there is no host advantage then you are fricken awful at this game and pretty much braindead, its so damn bad, host tops the board almost every match unless he is a member of the Gears local blind team. Ugh yeah, thats my rant over, its just a shame that the people that made UT2004 cant even network a game to make it fairly competitive on a level playing field, if they do this with UT3 I will likely sell my 360, please dont mess up UT for the love of God, dedicated servers are needed devs, enough of this money grabbing cheap P2P crap anymore. And thats all:P.
I play RANKED matches just for achievements, but I don't play them that much (never plan on getting Seriously, not worth it to me). Usually I play player matches with friends and I find that to be really fun. But I agree with you in that the whole host advantage does get frustrating. I still think it's a really fun game though, just not in ranked matches.

I want the achievements but I got bored of gears a long time ago I never reallly been a fan of the multiplayer so I just don't play it at all really, maybe the odd time if I'm bored.

no i dont play gears just for the achievement...i actually really like the game but liek you the one thing that really pisses me off about is the bullet lag. gears would be 100 times better if they had hit detection like call of duty or halo which uses client side hit detection. 95% of the time you dont see anyone off host using the lancer..why? because you cant hit anything with it! the bullet lag is ridiculous and thats why the shotgun is the main weapon of choice for everyone. i have all of the achievements for gears so far except 10k kills but im not about to play all those ranked matches only getting pissed because of host bull crap..and bullet lag. i only play with my friends for fun..and even then its not even really fun because of the crappy hit detection.

Most of Gears Online achievments are pathetic and not fun at all. I gave up straight away - because I know I am not going to kill 10000 people in ranked matches. The game is good, but the online is a bit lacking.....
if you don't like gears it's cool and i ca see why. I used to think I had terrible connetion due to bullet lag, but every time i play at my friends house I appreciate my connection more and more. the lag thing though is due to the fact that gears hasn't produced enough money to invest in a shared connection like halo 2 has. And another thing, if you're really actualy good (if in your case your connection is terrible I'm sorry) you should be able to overtake host unless he is already amazing to begin. but actually even with my bad lag at my friends house, I was still able to come out on top on every ranked match (helping him get his pistol achvment) every time using only a pistol. So it does depend on the connection but more so the player...

I'm calling BS here. If you and the host start firing at the same time, at the same distance,with the same weapon, your not going to win. Just because your good doesn't mean your connection is as good as his seeing as theres no client side detection. The host will have the advantage no matter what. I'm not that great at gears, I'm merely ok, but I always do amazing when I host. That should never be. This really doesn't surprise me anyway given the other poor choices they have implimented in this game such as linear level design, broken controls (having the a button do to much is just piss poor game design), and lack of variety in SP and MP. Cliffy B and epic should not be praised for making an amazing game (cause its not), they should however be praised for making a very pretty one (and thats it).
Yea I remember when Gears was "THE Game to have" and now I can't find anyone to sell this game to since they heard how content-less the game really is. Well that's 60 bucks down the tube of dissapointment and sorrow :(

im actually the opposite... i play the game to have fun, not for achievements. ranked games are full of people that are focused more on their achievements and winning than having fun, and will quickly ruin anyone else's in order to get what they want.
i usually play with strangers on player matches in Annex (when im not doing split-screen with my roommate), and as long as you are playing with people who aren't trash talkers and like to keep things even (changing up teams every now and then to keep things new and even), i have a blast. even though i usually resort to just the shotgun and some other special weapon that is on the map (longshot, torque bow, boomshot), the gameplay doesn't get repetitive to me.
Get atleast a 512Kb upload rate for your internet. Don't upload on your computer or put a limit on it. Bullet lag is fine with that I can't even tell the difference.
Me and my friend are pretty much identical in skill, we had a little game before, sniper match, we are both similar with it, he is probably slightly better. So, first match, his host, he beats me 5-2, second match my host, same map, same sniper battle, I win 5-1. Gears is about connection more than skill to say the least. It has its ups though, I was playing a match before and these guys were friends who had managed to get into ranked together, I killed them a lot and when one was down on the ground, just left him to bleed out whilst the whole team tea bagged for a long long time, great. They were angry as hell, gotta love it.

Yes, work through it. Lol getting an xbox to me means you HAVE to get live it's just not the same experience. I sitll play gears for fun btw.
