Before I was deployed to Korea and before I got my Hi Def, I had my Xbox 360 hooked up to my 480p flat screen Sony CRT. I had it running through the 480p HDTV selection on the Component cable, but now whenever I attempt to hook it up the same way, it gives me a black and white double screen split down the middle. It will only let me run it in standard definition. It worked before... what would cause this to stop working?

480p IS standard resolution. HD starts at 720p. Also there is no "HDMI selection on the component cable". Perhaps you should sleep a bit and clear your head. Most of your post is gibberish.Flavour666

Actually, if you look on the part of the component cable that connects to the Xbox, there is a switch for High Def and Standard. And in the display options under HDTV settings, 480p is an option. It only runs at 480i in the standard setting. And it looks a lot better at 480p. Trust me... I know what i'm talking about... perhaps you should make sure you do as well?

No, flavour was right, taht first post made no sense. HDMI is a type of cable as is component, so you could have no "HDMI on the component cable. What has probably happened is it has gotten switched to a higher setting such as 720p when its on the HD switch causing it not to work. Put it on standard and go to the HD settings and make sure it's set to 480p, then try putting the switch back on "HD" (even though, like flavour said, 480p isn't technically HD) and see what happens.

Could it be that maybe he mistakenly typed "HDMI" when he actually just meant to type "HD" or "HDTV"?

I didn't say HDMI... i said High Def. There is a difference. It switches between the type of output running from the Xbox to the TV. And I visually check in the HDTV settings when it's at this setting to make sure that it is at 480p (i can still see even though the screen looks all screwed up). It worked when I was in the states and looked so much better... but now I don't understand why it doesn't.

Component Cable

Sorry this is such a crappy pic, but it says HDTV on the topand TV on the bottom. There is a switch on the right side to select which one to use. I had it set to HDTV and had the display settings at 480p before and it worked perfectly.

No.

And that is why I made the suggestion that you mistakenly typed "HDMI" instead of "HD" or "HDTV".

I think there has only been a few posts in this thread that aren't people arguing over how to say it correctly. ;)

On topic

Previously mentioned:

I think that if you changed the switch position on the cable to TV, then configure HD settings, turn off the console, change the switch back to HDTV, then maybe it'll work.

If not try running it on 60Hz to make sure you've got the scart cable in the right one. (Because I have a scart socket that always makes everything black and white.)

Apart from, I don't really know much about HDTV's.

Adam.

Your TV is HD? cause with 480 I don't think it can be. just play on the standard setting, your games should look fine.

It's capable of 480p, but I can only get this through the HDTV setting. It looked a lot better when I had it set up like this before. I just don't know what would cause it to stop working. It was shipped to Korea... maybe something got screwed up in the process?

But it worked on HD before you went to Korea?

I don't think the country you are in changes anything about that.

Maybe it was damaged when it was shipped, the people there don't care, anyway, they just throw stuff about.

But, to tell you the truth, I have no idea what could actally affect it. Sorry.
