depends on which one you bought. different xboxs have different prices for the warranty. in my opinion its not worth it. all they do now i replace the controller if it goes bad and if you have hard drive problems, dust, humidity, and power surges. IT DOES NOT COVER THE RROD. so its a waste of money. plus they send you a refurbish one back if they cant fix your old one. just like what microsoft does.

If you're going to buy a warranty, buy one directly from MS.

With store warranties, you can use them once and only once. Then they give you a brand new 360, but you will have to buy a new warranty for the new console. If you need to replace the console multiple times, this gets expensive really fast.

With the MS warranty it is $60 for an extra two years onto the standard one year warranty. That means you are covered for everything that could possibly go wrong with your 360 for three years (the RRoD is covered for three years for free, but other problems are only covered for one year normally). Here's the thing though: Once you buy the MS warranty you are covered for three years. Period. No matter how many times MS has to repair or replace your 360, they will do it and they will never charge you an extra penny for it. It's a much better deal.

That's all completely false

Best Buy charges like 59.99 I think for the Elite coverage now? Cheaper for everything else

Whatever reason your 360 breaks you bring it in with the controller and cables and get a whole new console.

They also let you swap out the hard drive

Do NOT get the one from Microsoft. All you're doing is asking to get sent a refurbished unit that's been in God knows where and treated God knows how.

From the experience I had just recently at Best Buy, they will NOT let you exchange your broken elite or pro for lets say an arcade model and some extra credit in your pocket. If you're thinking that's gonna happen, then good luck cause my Best Buy let me only exchange my pro for another pro. Also it's not that bad to buy another store warranty from them that's if it even expires in the first place once you take it back, mines expired cause I didn't exchange it for the exact same pro...it expired cause I exchanged it for a 60gb pro.:P Also they refunded me the tax that I had paid on my broken premium console, which pretty much paid off the new product replacement plan I bought for my new 60gb puppy.

Yes I understood the first time and the question still remains.

Why on Earth on would you do that?

You have a warranty on an Elite. If the Elite breaks you get a new Elite. Same with the Pro, same with any other item you ever buy a warranty for.

That's like getting a new car with a 100,000 mile warranty and when that car breaks you say you want to exchange it for a lower class car and pocket the difference of the original cost on the day you bought it.

Dude where in the world did I mention I have an elite? I have a 60gb premium console. What I'm trying to tell topic creator is that if he ever bought a pro or an elite 360 and it broke, he won't be able to take it back and exchange it for an arcade by just putting his 20 or 60 or 120gb hdd on it while getting store credit in the process of doing so. You know...since the elite and pro are a lot more expensive than the arcade. I hope that made more sense.

As far as what happened to me, my 20gb pro system broke, I took it back and tried to get some extra store credit by just putting my 20gb hdd on an arcade. But like I said before, they won't and did not allow me do that since I was gonna come up a whole bunch of money in store credit. Instead since they didn't have any 20gb pros left at that time, they ended up giving me the newly released(2 months ago)60gb console. So I'm lucky enough to have a 60gb right now.

Also TC I hope this answered a bunch of your questions. Looks like it might also depend on your Best Buy so I say give them a call. Sometimes it can get really complicated like my wall of text's.

From my experience the 360 warranty from BB is garbage.  They make you mail it (at your expense) to a company that will replace your 360 -- you can;t just take it back in and replace it.

Again, this is from my experience in 2006, it may have changed since then.  Best way to find out is to go down to your local and ask, but I'd say don;t waste yoru time with it, just rely on MS's warranty.

Any warranty I have purchased from best buy, and I get a warranty on any major electrical item ( have purchased warranty through best buy on xbox,ds,tv,surround sound, computer) I have never been told to mail it to a company.  I have always taken it to the store for the exchange.  The only problem I have ever had was my tv being replaced under the warranty, and the only reason that was a problem was because I was told the wrong thing by a associate, but after calling corporate, they made it all better via a gift card.

I would purchase the warranty through best buy and not MS.  Much better to deal with BB then MS

Essentially you're getting the same thing, but on different levels. MS will repair and/or send you a refurbished console. Although this isn't as safe a route as getting a new one, it will work and you do have 3 years without an extended warrenty. With BB you get to just exchange for a new one but may cost a bit extra for the warrenty.

All in all I think it's more convenient to have the BB warrenty simply because when it breaks you can just walk in the store and talk to someone for 5 or 10 minutes and be on your way with a new console. When you go the MS route you gotta ship it to them, wait for it to be fixed, wait for the shipping to arrive. This could take a few weeks. It's easier dealing with the store rather than MS.

acutally its not. i work at best buy. they brought a new system in called geek squad black tie protection plan. all the units are different for the warranty. so that was correct what you said. they do not replace the whole system for a new one. they refurbish it now. they do replace the controller alone if the controller goes out http://www.geeksquad.com/gslibrary/services/content/black_tie_protection/terms_and_conditions/20080914/20080914GadgetGizmo.pdf check the pdf for more information on the gadets and gizmos plans

Just letting you know what my personal experience was.  it was quite memorable as it was my first 360 to break and the clerk had told me, "any problems, just bring it back and we'll trade it out".  This was at launch, so I'm not surprised that they changed the policy after the flood of repair issues.

I'm not talking about that Geek Squad ripoff, no one here was

It's the Best Buy extended service warranty.
