Before i begin my story i must say i dont really look 18, i actually dont sound 18 either, but i am....A couple weeks ago i bought my 360. The PX didnt have a decent game on the shelf so i went to Wal-Mart instead. I asked the person in the electronic department to get me a few games from the case. Douche Bag:"which ones?" Me:"uhhh Gears of War and..." Douche Bag: "Nope.....anything else". I thought he was kidding. Me:"Hahah...yeah and  Chromehounds...". He takes Chromehounds out of the case and makes his way to the register. Me:"Uhhh i need Gears of War also...". Douche Bag:"No", Me:"Why not", Him:"Because your not 18..." Me: Bull****", i show him my lisence. He looked at it for a minute and asked "How tall are you?". I dont rly keep track of how tall i am nor do i care. I said "im not sure, about 5' 6". He hands my lisence back and says "nope". My lisence says 5'8. Im sorta P.O'ed. My Gamestore is just across the street. So i go back to the car and tell my dad to take me there. He decides to go in and talk to the guy. My dad asks him if i showed and I.D and the guys says it could have been my brother and says i could'nt even answer a simple question, i showed him a 2nd form of I.D and he grabbed Gears out of the case and goes to the register. I handed the guy my debit card to pay he says "no, he has to pay for it" talking about my dad...My dad then asks "dont you have to be 18 to even have a debit card?" The guy says "nope". I finally ended up getting the game and even paying for it myself but it was very annoying and i dont think the guy was doing his job very well...i'm not sure i will purchase anymore games from there.Well thanks for reading my story ^.^

If that ever happens again get the employee's name and report him. Sorry that happened. My advice would be to either write a letter, or complain to the store manager even if you don't know who the employee was. Maybe you'll get something for free out of it.

It's well and good the guy was trying to do his job, but he crossed a point and just became a jerk.  I would have made a complaint to the manager.

Go back to Wal Mart and ask to buy the game again, if he says no, demand to speak to a manager. If you huff and puff about anything at Wal Mart, you'll almost always get your way, I should know, I work at one. :(

People do that here. As long as your not using something like an IM slang, most people don't care as long as you don't have a wall of text.

As for the topic. You can still complain to the manager about what happened. Since it was Wal-Mart, you could give the estimated time/day you dealt with that person, and a description to get it taken care of. I work in retail and not to long ago got a big training meeting about identification.

The main thing about a DL is that sometimes if they look damaged/altered enough, they can refuse service if theres a fine for selling a under-age person something. The fact that you gave a real close answer to your height is part of a normal question( I hear birthday is more common). Your dad coming rooting for you wouldn't have made a difference if they still thought your were under age. A second photo ID should have helped if it was kept in good condition. So if it was, he should have sold you the game.

If it was me selling you the game, I would have told you at least why I couldn't sell you the game if there was a reasonable suspicion the ID was altered. I would have been polite too :)

That guy was just a real crummy salesman. Rude and impolite can get you fired.

If you had a license that proved you were 18 that guy had no right to deny you the game. You should have gotten the manager and then demanded a discount.

Dude, I've seen 20+ year olds do a worse spelling job than he did... chill out lol And I know what you mean. I got a friend who is actually 21 this year that doesn't look a day over 16, so he has to show ID everywhere.

I know, some people are really stupid like that.
One guy refused to sell me a 12! honestly a 12!
I was 15 at the time I think, he even said, "yes, you look about 15/16 mate, but I need to see ID". I kicked off a little, some other lady came out from the back, asked what the matter was, and happily sold the game to me and apologised for the other guy.
Can't remember which game it was though :P

I don't think there should be a 18+ limit. Once you hit your teens, isn't it "too late" anyway? I'm 15, and I hate how they care... There's no law against it in Norway, but it's like an ethical rule. I was really offended by a clerk who wouldn't sell me a 16+ game... Probably because she was from the Middle East. 16+ boys there looks like 22 year old Norwegians :P

Sorry but you cannot blame the guy for following the rules. You didnt even know anything as simple as your own height. I say next time know the information on your license like the back of your hand and then see what happens.

To the poster, I recommend growing a beard. It makes you look older than you really are, and it gives a rugged handsomeness that goes quite far with the ladies.......granted those ladies are 37 and have children, but what 18 year old doesn't want step-children? I'd also remember what height I was, it's just common knowledge nowadays and 98% of the population knows this. Do you know what hand you write with? What age you are? These are all things everyone needs to know about themselves. Get a beard.

Funny. Well, not actually funny but it's funny that you guys actually enforce those ratings over there. Here, in the Netherlands a five year old can buy Gears of War without a problem. Those ratings are just there as a warning. Not to be enforced by the stores.

what a dumbass, next time walk away from the store and buy it somewhere else. Their loss. You still ended up giving your money to their store, that's not good. Let his manager know that he made the store lose a client. It's not like GeOW is sold out everywhere or something.

I'm 27 and look like it yet get carded for drinks.  The system is in place for a reason.  I was in an EB where a woman was buying Christmas gifts for her 11 year old son.  She asked for GTA San Andreas and asked if they had fixed the nudity in it.  The employee tried to explain that they did but it wasn't readily available as part of normal gameplay anyway.  He also stated that all the violence was still in there.  She was content in the fact the hot coffee was gone and more than happy to buy her 11 year old a crude/violent game.  When parents contribute to the proper upbringing of their own children then we won't have to worry about things like this.  Until people start taking responsibility for their own actions we'll see more of this in the future.

i would have said some means things that can't be said on these boards.  I went to gamestop about a week ago and i picked up doom 3 and the guy there asked for my ID which i didn't expect considering i'm almost 23 and haven't shaved in about 2 weeks.

I've been asked for ID'd for the strangest of things. Pepsi, J20 and silly string (yes, silly string) are amongst some of the most annoying I've encountered.

In your case I can't blame the guy for doing his job, but he didn't have to be such a tool about it.

I just got a reward on pgr3 x box live and it was a reward saying that I earned the right to have a concept car and it was great, and I also have oblivion so if you guys want to tell me how to play the game you can if you want to if you have enough time and I'm also still trying to get a new car and I hope that I get enough money by racing soon enough.

A lot of retailers will have rules about carding people who look under a certain age.  I know at Circuit City, they are supposed to ask for ID any time they sell a M rated gamed, R rated movie, or Parental Advisory CD if the customer looks under the age of 25.  If you looked really young, and you could not answer a question about "yourself" on your driver's license, then I may have refused sale to you as well.

I remember we had some kids come in and try to purchase GTA: San Andreas.  We refused sale to them so they went out to their car and got their Grandmother to come in and purchase the game for them.  About a week later, the mother came back and was angry that we had sold the game to her children.  We told her that we didn't sell the game to her children we sold it to their grandmother.

Those english assingments you were talking about were meant to prepare you for everyday life things, like forums... zommgg. I really shouldn't be talking though because i'm far from perfect. Just thought I'd point that out because it's funny when people associate proper grammar and spelling only to the place that was supposed to teach it to you to use elsewhere.

As for your problem at the store, blame it on little kids who think they are adults and don't accept the fact they can't get away with anything. For every person such as yourself who is honestly 18, there's 10 little punks who are trying to pass as 18 through fake ID's and BS.

Looking around the forums on any given day you can find at least 50 of said kids who lie, steal and cheat people and brag about how cool it is. Those kids left unchecked cause a lot of the BS we as adults have to put up with. Go figure.

Best way to handle that is going to the store closest to there and buying it.  Then going back and showing them the receipt.  Did you buy it on base or not?  I would of shown them your dependant ID card, which would have your ID and is normally taken by people without asking for authenticity.
