I am really fed up and pissed off at the Xbox 360. I have never had an electronics product make me feel so nervous. First problem started when I got to the last level of Bioshock and then I got disc read errors. Same thing with COD WOW. I never got to complete those games. Then Mass Effect started freezing on me, and finally a RROD.

I thought my woes were over after I sent in the unit for repair and they sent me back a refurbished unit. Today, I inserted Mass Effect. I got a disc read error. WTH!?!??! So I popped in Assassin's Creed 2, brand new and sealed game. The game froze on a 360 logo. I took it out and put it back in. It played this time. Now I don't know if I want to risk investing time in this game and then it doen't work.

THis is just outrageous. In the history of consoles, I never had this problem. I had a my PS3 for 3 years, and never have to worry once that it won't read a disc. I guess you could say that my Mass Effect disc is messed up, but a brand new one not working either? No way.

All future releases will definitely be purchased for PS3 platform.

Just bad luck dude...

I've heard stories about the PS3 where peoples games actually get stuck in the disc drive. The only way to get them out was to take the whole PS3 apart. Don't want to get off topic, just saying it can happend to your PS3 too.

So basiclly your Xbox had a disc reading issue which meant that all your games didnt work. You had it repaired and the problem persisted, until finally it conked out big time. Do you have your xbox on its side or vertical?

I have it horizontal. My original Xbox had the disc reading error, and the replacement unit they sent has the same problem right off the bat? Cmon, that is not bad luck.Does MS even test out their replacement units?

Well I had E73 for my first but i didnt worry as it was in warranty. If my current one breaks though I will be quite annoyed to say the least. The prices of arcades at the moment though mean that the risk is viable, i mean you could sell controller etc to recoup some of the cost, so in all i think yes xbox's do break alot but yeah its worth it.

Out of all the consoles I own I had problems with the ps2. I went through 4 ps2 last gen. Haven't had any trouble with my 360 and I had it since 06.

I lol'd when I saw this thread. Mine (an Elite)died about 10days ago and the warranty expired in September.

So in my case I'm thinking of just buying an Arcade model and putting my 120G H.Drive on it instead of getting the Elite fixed.

I mean the Arcade model is suppose to come w/ 512mb of onboard memory instead of 256 plus it'll have a Jasper chip...I dunno just makes more sense even though I'll have to pay more for the Arcade version...

This is the first gen I ever had a problem with a console failing on me. Last gen my xbox, ps2, gamecube, and dreamcast never had an issue. Even the generations before that all the wayback to the nes I never had a problem with a console. This gen I've been through 6 360's since launch and I had 1 ps3 fail on me. I have to give it M$ though they took care of every console for me without any problems. I've gotten so used to console reliability that I feel any console failure is unacceptable, but I'm not going to boycott the system by not buying any games for it.

i know your pain man, one time i had just bought Gears of War 2 on midnite release the next day i accidentally kicked over my xbox and it scratched my disc and screwed up the xbox. fortunately wal mart allowed me to return thescracthed copy, but it took me three weeks to be able to get my hands on a copy because it kept getting sold out. I didnt want to wait three weeks to for a brand new xbox plus i was at college so i would have had to go 3 hrs on a bus just to get home and pick up my xbox(thats an 80$ trip). so i decided to just buy an arcade console and put in my hdd. 3 days afterwards i got an E69 error for my HDDand xbox does not cover it. My cousin bought mea 60 gb HDD after listening to my misfortune. Id liek to add the 60 gb HDD is the biggest A** rape ever there is no explanation as to why it shoudl cost 100 dollars, anyway my wired xbox controller which i would use to play games on pc and use on my xbox screwed up. I decided to buy a play and charge kit for my wireless controller, it screwed up after 3 months and was not covered under warranty. To make a long story short, Microsoft makes crap that breaks down all the time, I have never had so much problems with a system. The only one to annoy me a little bit was the disc read errors on the ps2, but it was never such a hassle. I havent had a lot of probems lately, but am very cautious that things will screw up again. I hope no one has to ever go through it, but at the end of the day gamings my hobby and although sony was my fav last gen i have to say xbox has the best games(dont go calling me a fan boy, you can look at my library and see i have a lot of PS3 games some of which are my favs ever, but xbox, in my opinion, has impressed me the most this gen; Wii doesnt count)

lol, it definitely is NOT bad luck. That's what happens in the world of 360's. We all didn't get a purdy-lil 3 year warranty extension for nothin ya know :D These 360's are pretty much a design failure. I've went through about 4 before finally having the one I'm using now last for a year or so and it's still good to go. I'm not worried because it does have a 3 year warranty.
First problem started when I got to the last level of Bioshock and then I got disc read errors. Same thing with COD WOW. rockdve36
Welcome to the world of Xbox 360 gaming at it's finest :) I've went through the same issues in the past with launch type consoles, but what you're experiencing is not out of the norm with the 360, so the only thing you can do is constantly return it when problems arise or start showing up. Use the warranty to its fullest if necessary. I truly believe if the 360 didn't have the hardware failures that it did/does have, it may have been the best gaming console/online service combo ever created for the new generation.

just sounds like bad luck to me.. unfortunatly sometimes 'electrical goods' (even repaired electrical goods) have problems; especially if the company haven't found the root of the problem (in your case, your console).. try to stick with it until Microsoft completely sort out the problem, because if you decide to ditch Microsoft simply because you had problems with 'a' certain 360, you'll miss out on future releases exclusive to Microsoft...

patience + time = problem solved !

Install to your hard drive or ask your parents to get you a new 360. Oh and the whole 'ps3 blah blah' just really makes you look like a baby.

I mostly play on my 360, not my PS3. I never let it on for hours. I play mostly 1-2 hours and turn it off.

Why would a problem with your console effect your individual game purchases?

And in all the history of consoles? What about PS1 and the PS2? How quickly people forget...atleast Microsoft ships & repairs free of charge.

PS3 has a lot of errors too, they are just not as publicised as much as the 360 because they are all ex 360 players who do not want to admit that they shouldn't have bought a ps3 in a hissy fit after they had a disc read error.

PS3 has hard drive errors and disc reader errors.

I haven't had any problems with my 360 yet(knock on wood) but my PS3 did fail on me with the infamous bluray drive failure. I can understand the TC, it is really annoying how console makers(we all know who) cant stand by thier hardware. I still have my original NES and it works fine. What has happened to that level of quality over the years?

And calling someone a baby after telling him to ask his parents for a new system doesn't make you seem like an idiot at all.

If they sent you back your same unit, then its because they didn't fix the disc drive and only your RROD. I had the same problem with mine, and when i called they told me that the warranty only covers the RROD and the E73-E76 errors ( I think those are the right numbers). I had to go out and buy a new xbox. =/ The best advice i can give you is just to buy a new xbox. Specifically the Arcade version and just keep all your stuff for your broken one.
