Because I would be paranoid that I am gonna blow out the bulb or something, honestly why do people spend so much money on DLPs? I think the idea of constantly having to pay for a tv is dumb, you shouldn't have to replace a part for something you already paid for.

I wouldn't buy a DLP ever. I think most people do because they are cheaper at purchase.

Those two comments are completely uneducated on the topic of dlp tv's. Truthfully, DLP tv'sdo have bulbs, and yes they burn out, over time and when theyare abused being shut on and off. Its not a stupid purchase at all,I am a proud owner of a dlp (I play all my games) and an lcd....dlp tvs have better black levels and what not....so its all a matter of what you want, but just know that the bulbs dont blow up every other month...........

From what I understand, allthough I may be completely incorrect. Those bulbs last 4 years with normal use. That and viewing angles and the larger size, I prefer a high quality LCD anyday.

Are you people INSANE?? I have my 360 hooked up (when I'm there) to my dad's 62" Toshiba RP-DLP, and the screen is nothing short of BEAUTIFUL. DLP is great technology, and as each generation comes out, the better it gets. (its the mirrors!....)

The lamp issue isn't something you just have to deal with with DLP.. its more of a thing you deal with with Real Projection (RP). Don't let that deter you from buying a DLP. The image is beautiful.. and yes.. you'll probably have to replace the lamp.. but its like $200, and when you install it you got a great new picture again! Better than having to deal with dead LCD cells, plasma wear-out, or CRT image burn.

Is this the new thing to fight, compare, and pick apart? Yea I agree the PS3/360 argument is getting boring and same goes for Gears of War/Halo 3.

my numbers are probably not right but here is the difference. LCD and plasma have 50,000 hours of view time before they die. when they die their done, you get a new tv. DLP only have 10,000 hours per bulb, but it only cost 300 per bulb.

hmmmm I haven't had a single complaint about my Samsung DLP. In fact when my friends come over they all compliment me on how good the quaility is, and then almost s#!t themselves when I tell them how cheap it was (most of these guys own plasmas and LCD's). I work days and my girlfriend is a night nurse, so coupled with a DVR cable box and my PS3 and 360 the TV is on for hours at a time, everyday and night. Its been3 years since I bought the damn thing and I havn't had to replace a bulb yet, so take your atempt to belittle DLP owners elseware.

I think not using and enjoying something pay for is dumb, and letting it depreciate in value without ever using it is even dumber.

The fact that the poster has no to little knowledge about what he's posting about makes this topic ignorant and pointless. So let's just pretend that he has a valid point and move on.

I saw the thread and read a few of the msgs, then i went off to amazon.com to look up a DLP tv. For those of us not "in the know" on these types of TV's (myself being one...) what should we be lookin for when shoppin for a TV as awesome as this? Is there a certain namebrand that seems to out perform the others? and about these bulbs that need to be changed, can i do it myself, or do i have to call someone, or worse yet, take it in somewhere? Alls what im seeing is one sexy ass Halo 3 experience!!

DLP's are great, whereas other TV's either slowly die out from day 1 (Plasmas), or have dead pixel or color balance issues (LCD's), DLP's are great cuz when the bulb goes out (in maybe 4 years of use), you spend $200 and you basically get a brand new image. Much better than buying a brand new tv if you ask me.

My next TV will most likely be a DLP.

The fact of the matter is that all DLP, Plasma, and LCD TVs are great, the major factor is the setup of your room. DLP's are Rear Projection televisions which give you a very narrow viewing angle compared to 160 degrees on plasma and 175 degrees on LCDs. Most times DLP bulbs burn out in four years with normal useage and can cost from 200-700 dollars depending on how big and what brand your television. As far as gaming goes plasmas have the lowest responce time (4ms) and with the new washout technology that comes on all the plasmas you dont have to worry about burn in. Plasmas are ALWAYS going to give you a better picture than DLP and LCD except for when you have direct ambient light directed onto the screen. In any case you should consider the layout of your room, viewing distance, and angles before you get the TV that fits your lifestyle best.

Undereducated...DLP's have great viewing angles and better response times, as well as incredible black levels. Plasmas do not ALWAYS give you better pictures I have seen some pretty bad pictures on HD plasma. When plasma dies...a whole new set is needed, I would rather buy a bulb. New DLP sets are going to have LED technology which will last much longer than any bulb...the newest Samsungs have this. Why don't you just have a look at those before making an ignorant remark. DLP's are probably the best way to go when getting into HD and gaming. Please do not give advice to people.

i only prefer lcd because it doesn't take up much space and it light weight.  I've had no problems with dead pixels or color issues.    DLPs are freakin sweet though.  I'll get one once I buy a place and have a real job.  (im in grad school and thus have a small apartment)

Well by the time your plasma or LCD dies you will have spent more than the cost of a new tv on just replacing the bulbs.... 60,000+hrs vs. 4,000 uhhh yeah DLPs are great!

You can get most replacement bulbs for around $150.00 at Amazon.com, and if you are spending the money on a DLP TV anyways you probably bought the warranty. Furthermore, unless you didn't know any better and bought it at Best Buy, pretty mcuh every other retail warranty covers a replacement bulb, no questions asked. I plan on using the warranty to replace mine 3 years into its lifespan. It is very simple to do as well.

Uhh, yeah...You aren't going to win any awards for being bright ;). Why don't you do some more research and read other posts before you post more nonsense. Oh and we don't care if you play on a plasma hell I don't even care if you own a TV. Stop spreading rubbish and go look at a few tv's yourself, it's obvious that you have no idea what in the hell you are talking about. I will take my Samsung 56 incher everytime over any other TV, the picture is better than most plasmas for a fraction of the cost.

Its not like you have to replace the bulb every week. You get a replacement plan, like you would for any other high end television, and that will cover 1, maybe even 2 bulb replacements, covering the cost of the plan easily.

DLPs are great TVs, I would have bought a 65 incher if I would have had the space for it. I'm happy with my 46 inch LCD tho :)
