I'm not a HUGE fan of RPG's but I found Oblivion really fun. Mass Effect looks really cool so I was wondering how similar the two games were and if I would like it?

The only similarity that I found between Oblivion and Mass Effect was the engaging dialogue between you and NPC's. But in Mass Effect, your character actually speaks, unlike Oblivion. If you like Oblivion, you should like Mass Effect. It's different in many ways that it would take a whole essay to explain. And whether you like one or the other, will not inhibit you from liking a certain game, despite them being the same genre.

Yea they're basically totally different games. Oblivion is a fantasy game and Mass Effect is a Sci-Fi shooter rpg. Basically if you liked Oblivion you will enjoy the dialogue and story elements, but I'm not so sure about the combat unless you also liked games like Halo and GoW.

I didn't think I'd like either. I got Oblivion about a year after it's release as there was a drought of interesting titles at that time. I was suprised to find I loved it and was kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. Then when Mass Effect came out I wasn't at all interested in it but picked it up anyway since Oblivion caught me by surprise, this may as well. Sure enough it did. They are very different but I loved them both and I'm coming from your perspective as well. I'd say it's safe to at least rent first and go from there if money is an issue. If not pick it up asap (You'll need a lot of time to finish it and if you start now you should be done by the time GTA4 comes out).

Definitly different genre in regards to the design. On is fantasy and one is sci fii. I have both and played both to a good extent.(140 hours in oblivion and 50+ hours in ME). I think you will like ME. The combat is much different though you will wish there was more combat in the game. Both games definitly should not be passed up if you enjoy action RPGS.

I would definitely recommend mass effect. Especially if you liked oblivion, cuz i did, and want a similar but not so similar game. It took like 42 hours my first time through mass effect and ive played it through again on a harder difficulty them once more simply because i enjoyed the game.

I loved Oblivion. Put in over 140 hours. I detest Mass Deffect. Put in less than 3 hours.

If you buy ME, prepare yourself for plenty o readin and watching cinematic scences.
