Note: This is not the same as the original post which got locked due to questionable language used.

What with Microsoft jumping on the Motion sensing BS bandwagon with Natal, will they go the same route as Nintendo? Catering to the casual market usually produces the big bucks (and the worse games). Apparantley Microsoft is encouraging companies to incorperate this Natal crap when developing their games, which cant be good.

I want to use a controller. I dont want to wave my arms around like a four year old.

At the moment, it appears I can safely carry on using my controller, but if Natal becomes the success Microsoft proclaims it will be, wont the next X-box be focused 100% around motion sensing crap, forcing you to wave your arms around like a spastic ape?

If thats so, I hope the Playstation 4 or whatever it'll be called when the next X-box is released isn't motion sensor based.

I really hope not. I felt like the Wii was an entire gimmick in itself, it was awesome and fresh at first but it really starts to wear on you. To the point where I really have to read into reviews and make sure the technology was used correctly and not just frustrating waggle. You have to stick with what works, and controllers have carried many systems into success. You bring out a console revolving around a gimmick like that and you need to make sure developers are on board to make decent games with it. Crytek seems intrigued by Natal and it's always a good thing when bigger developers seem excited about it. Only time will tell, I just hope it's not a replacement to the controller entirely. I don't want to look like an idiot waving my hands at the tv to play games, but there are advancements that I could see it doing. Waving through Menus on games/movies alone would be pretty sweet.

As a casual gamer, I would love that... but most people would hate that.

no. it will only be an addition. franchises like COD, HALO, GEARS, madden, sports...etc are too successfull to abandon the controller.

Perhaps for the current generation, but if this Natal BS sells like hot cakes (Which it will, all for the gimmick of "LOL I R NOT USING CONTROLLER!!!"), then you can be guaranteed they'll make the next x-box focus around it, meaning COD, Halo and the like will have to adapt their controls to fit with Natal.

it would be a feature for certain games but it wouldn't replace the controller. not evenby a long shot. not everyone can stand and wave their arms and feet around.

Look at the Wii. A console who's control scheme consists fully of waving your arms around like an idiot.

Look at how successful the Wii is. MS is hoping to emulate this.

NATAL does other things besides games. you can turn on/off your xbox, search netflix and menu items using your arms and voice. Its an added bonus. selling well doesnt mean It has to replace playing madden or FPS with a controller

BLAS1AN

Useless, unless you can also turn off the TV with Natal as well.

BLAS1AN

What few bonuses it has are outweighed by the fact that if Natal is successful, it will be forced on us. Whether it is simply used to 'add' to gameplay, or it replaces the controller entirely, it will be mandatory if it is successful.

TJORLY

It may be forced on us in a manner of being part of the xbox package but it doesnt have to be forced on us to replace the traditional controller.

how would you play madden by waving your hands in the air? NATAL is controller free. There will be games that accomodate NATAL. It doesnt have to be COD or GEARS.

Honestly the best solution would be to make games compatible for both with the option of turning on the controller.

You keep saying it's all doom because of how Microsoft wants to tap into the casual industry because they want to make money. You're forgetting that they could make even moremoney by catering to both the casual and hardcore industry.

Forcing this ridiculous motion sensing rubbish on us isn't going to help the hardcore industry.

They're not forcing it on you, it's an optional peripheral. If Microsoft can make this much money and have this much market share from a predominantly hardcore fanbase then do you honestly think they would try to get rid of that? Just try and think logically for a second and then you'll settle down.

To put it basically for you, the Wii has sold about 50 million worldwide, 360 has sold about 30 million and the PS3 about 24 million. So to put it simplistically that puts the current console audience at 114 million. So for Microsoft to go all casual and not cater to the hardcore audience in the next gen market that effectively means ignoring a potential 64 million+ customers or 56% of the market and that number will only grow as prices go down.

Obviously it's not black and white like that but you get the point.

Perhaps, but even if they did they would still cater to their strong hardcore base because like I said having both is much much better than having one or the other.

Microsoft is basically climbing their way up the console chain, they made it very clear that this gen they were aiming for Sony and the Playstation when most said there wasn't room for a 3rd console. They pulled that off and now they've got their eyes set on Nintendo and their casual market. I think it's safe to assume that you're not going to lose your good titles that make Microsoft and its affiliates obscene amounts of money.

I'm not worried about losing them, but if MS makes their next console with Natal, wouldn't all games use the technology (For better or worse), much like the Wii forces you to use themotion sensing crap for most of it's games?

That would be expensive and unnecessary, I wouldn't worry too much about it. MS is simply hoping to slap together a Wii Sports clone and cash in, they are well aware that the bulk of the MS fanbase is set in it's ways and will never be open to trying something else. Hence the reason MS won't support with any real effort, and nether will 3rd parties, unlike the Wii Remote, Natal will actually just be a gimmick. So don't worry the so called hardocre fanbase of MS is safe from the big bad motion controls, Natal is likely destined for failure.

If it is successful and they start using the motion sensors more than actual controllers you can say goodbye to MLG on the Xbox.

first of all, motion sensoring for gaming isn't exactly a new thing - it was inevitable that this would develop. it's rather cool that this is starting to come out but it isn't going to dominate the industry and take away the controller.

microsoft no better than to focus they're next console entirely on Natal. they will most likely start asking for developers to develop games to make use of it,but they will never go the way of nintendo.

Cant they just try and get Virtual reality working again? I mean, look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2WwFEfVnZA

And thats just two brothers who made that. Imagine what MS could do with all their money, instead of blowing it on rubbish like Natal.

likely, after all, microsoft isn't microsoft if they don't get involved with good business. i just hope that they will not try and force it onto gamers, rather, it exists to provide more options. they can simply do either natal only, controller only, or better, natal + controller combo. it would be useful, maybe for example, in bioshock, you do certain hand gestures to select a plasmid, or if you're a biotic in mass effect, you can just attack your enemies with a biotic push without having to pause and scroll through the menu.
