Hey, i really wanna get Xbox360 and make peace with my ps3, but Xbox360 has this common disease called "red ring" and this thing makes a wall between me and Xbox360... so i'm wondering, is there a kinda *Anti-Red* xbox360? did they release a model that doesn't hv this problem? i dunno; does elite hv this problem?? and BTW, is the red ring that common??? thanks, plz answer!milan22
I've had mine for over a year, its played quite a bit between my brother and I and we have no issues. Its located in our basement which is usually around 65 degrees fahrenheit so that might help. There is no doubt its the better gaming machine between the 360 and the ps3, dont let the rrod turn you off. Just follow these steps
1) Plug it straight into the wall, not into a surge protector
2) Keep the 360 and the power brick well ventilated, with a lot of room to breath around then
3) Buy either the elite model or if your gonna buy the premium get the one with the hdmi port and ONLY the one with the hdmi port
4) If you want piece of mind, this is the best 360 cooling device on the market:

You'll be fine, dont worry about it and even if it did happen, microsoft gives you a free 3 year warranty. Jump in
is pro anti-RRoD?? cuz i heard so.. is that true?milan22
Some are yeah. If it has the hdmi port on it theres a good chance its a falcon model 360 which runs cooler.
Well, for one. The biggest solution to the RRoD is jsut plain taking care of your console ie: dusting, not leaving on all day, giving it breaks to cool down, putting it in a area with good air flow.
Then second the latest 360's all have the Falcon CPU which allows it to run silently and helps with cooling.
So go ahead, i wouldn't be afraid. The 360 is an amazing console just treat it right and you'll be fine.
ha ha... i know what your going through. i spend a ridiculous amount of money for my system, and then just under a year it gets the red ring. i was heated. but at the same time knew it was under warranty. so i just sent it out and they sent me back a refurbished core one (from Australia i think). i was pissed for like a min. then got over it after i plugged it in and started playing games again.
then 9 months later this refurbished one breaks on me, and now im extra hot cause it was no longer covered under warranty, so i went out and bought a new core console. then a few months later, after i dropped another 400 bucks, microsoft decides to extend their warranty for 3 years. after i just dished out a load of money on a new system and a store warranty.
tell me that isnt crap* luck. so i sent the dud out to be repaired, got that same one back i plugged it in, it worked so i sold it on ebay. didnt even get half of what i spent on a new one.
so far so good with this one. but i no longer play for more than 3 hours at a time. and i jimmy rigged a couple of fans on the side of it to keep it ventilated.
sux that you spend so much money on something you know is defunct, just because the games are worth playing. always in the back of your mind thinking about that red ring of DEATH !!!!!!!!
How come you cant plug the 360 into a surge protecter ? Cause I had mine plugged into one and it died one me sooner or later but I had it for a bout two years.cjgangsta
Because theres no guarantee the 360 will get the amount of power necessary when you use a surge protector. Microsoft also officially said 360s should be plugged straight into the wall so thats what I do

O ok. I will keep that in mind.
Just to be on the safe side, just dont buy xbox 360 because it will be a pain in the @ss seeing it break down like that. My freind had one and he was an he loved 360 at that time and once it it has RRoD he didnt even bother returning it because he dont wont to deal with all that shipping and waiting for it to be repaired. Yea, like what I said earlier, just to be safe, buy a system that wont break down.
I kept my 360 in good shape, but after 2 years it conked out. I actually got an hdmi 360 with the new chip as a replacement, so that was nice. The big bummer for me is that I got the rrod one day before my winter break from school, and all I wanted to do once school was out was to play Halo3 for two weeks straight. No such luck. I got it back within two weeks after I sent it in, but by then I once again didn't have time to play it. The irony.phalasu
You must feel frustrated because you want to play a game that you have been wanting to play in a long time and then it breaks down on you and later on you probably are busy and cant play. A lot of busy people will feel annoyed with all that inconvience. Thats why having a console that you know that it wouldnt break is a very important thing. Cuz you know its a very big inconveince when you feel like playing but you cant.
I've had mine for a month, and I'm waiting for it to crash after having some of my games freeze up on me a few times..I moved it from an enclosed area to my computer desk and it still froze on me..I have cleared the cache..I do have it near my comp monitor but its in an open area and i usually put the monitor in sleep mode, when i play, nor does it generate a lot of heat...I do not have it plugged directly to the wall, no cooling unit attached, but i do unplug after using and I usually only play for 2-3 hours...I also have the hdmi falcon chip model, yet the 360 seems to make a good amount of noise, but I have no idea what the older model used to sound like...can't compare
The point of this is...what happened to the good old days when you would leave your game system plugged to whatever outlet you could find, left it out on a dirty carpet or bookshelf, played for ten hours straight, spilled jelly and cream over it, never cleaned it, and the system would work for 5-10 years....I love the 360 but it is a stressful investment
You get 3 years RROD protection from microsoft.
I think it should be coverd untill the new Microsoft console comes out at least... because this is faulty hardware and not a case of neglect by majority of RROD victims.
But anyway if your a new console buyer i dont see why not. Anyway by now the Elite and HDMI version probably matured too the point of eliminating this problem and if you do happen to get it your coverd for quite a long time.
hey i have a question about this topic...
i have the old 360 (non-falcon model),its been with me for a year and i've had the RROD twice. But this tyme, after the 2nd repair i think its running better, although makes more noise.
Is it a fact that the ones with the Falcon CPU run better and do not get RROD.??
Stick with the PS3, the 360 may have some good games but its technical problems outweigh the games.LatusItaniaccually its the other way the games out way the problems.... there SOO many great titles that it sometimes overwhelms me
