To be honest, it scares me too. I have heard so many stories about them breaking down that everytime I turn mine on I pray it doesn't happen to me. The good news is that I have had mine for over a year now and it hasn't happened... yet.
Get it at Best Buy and buy the 2 year replacement plan. That way, if it does die, you can trade it in for a brand new one. Having to go through MS for repair just gets you a reconditioned one that's probably worse than the one you sent them. I'll be sending my 360 in for the third time this week. I think I'm going to take this new one and trade it in at Gamestop for an Elite. The 360 is an awesome console, but it just isn't reliable. I'm not sure how brand new ones are though. You'd think MS would want to get past this reliability issue and have all the kinks out by now.
Warranty helps a little (in-store or MSs) but the hassle of going to the store or waiting just becomes annoying if it's as common to you as some others.
It is now 4 for 4 with my friends. I use to say 3 for 4 but the lone survior died over the weekend. I just heard about it a few hours ago. haha The longest lasted 15 months. Then 13, 8 and 4 months. It is really amazing I've never seen anything like this in my life. It just makes me go huh? to think MS let it go on so long. As you can see we all bought ours at different times.
i'll just cross my fingers and hope everyone's lying or exaggerating because i've had mine since launch with no issues...plus, my warranty is shot from opening my 360 and modding it. ;)
The new 360's (released Dec 06) have better cooling, DVD drives, CPU paste and solder - which reduces the breakdown a lot. But if you don't treat it like a bag of rubbish you won't have any problems. If you get Microsoft to fix it they just send you a refurbished console which will break again.
i just got my second one up and running agian. it was manufactured on 10-22-06. so, i hope i can make it with this one. since all games are going multi platform iam just going to buy the games for my ps3. since xbox just has halo and mass effect this year:twisted:
I have had mine since thanks giving, i have two roomates and several friends with 360s, I've never heard any of them talk about problems with their 360s and ive never experienced the problem myself. I've only heard about 360 issues on GameSpot.
