If you get the Elite then you will get hdmi, put the pro and the core don't support hdmi. As for upconversion, i don't think so. killercuts3Actually, as of like summer of 2007 Core/Acade and Pro systems do have HDMI ports. As for upconverting I'm not sure. I think it'll just display dvds in 480p.
the newer 360's have an hdmi port, i believe if you want to upconvert dvd you need to buy the hd dvd playerSilvernight129No, an HD DVD (Blu-ray now) player actually puts out 1080p. Upconverting is a different technology that just puts out standard DVDs at as good as quality as possible.

IT upscales DVDs, streamed movies, movies on a disc, Netflix movies, and original Xbox games.
Elite and arcade models will accept HDMI cables and not they do not up convert dvd's. The dvd player is a standard dvd player. There was and you may still be able find an external HD-DVD player for the xbox360 if you want HD movies on your 360. But since Toshiba no longer supports the format nor does Microsoft I would buy a seperate blu-ray player.wikkiwild1
Upscaling a SD dvd is not the same thing as playing a HD dvd. The thing about upconverting (or upscaling) DVD players is that they can make your standard-definition DVDs look like they're in HD--or at least look more HD-like. An upconverting DVD player is designed to do two things well to help enhance picture quality: Deinterlace the incoming source (the DVD) and scale the image "up" to the higher resolution of the TV.
True the 360 lacks a native HD drive, so if playing your HD movies is what your after, your out of luck. The 360 will however upscale your SD movies provided you use a HDMI cable to connect to your HDTV.
