I've been flat out ripped off by them, here goes my short story.

I purchased my 360 at launch and of course shortly after it died, and so I had to send it in for repair after repair after repair during that 1st year (no Joke about 4x), so time came to decide if I should renew my Live account, I made sure I didnt due to no time to play as well as a very unsatisfied 360 user. Fast forward to today, I dust off my 360 that I havent touched in about 10 months fire it up and Notice I cant play any of my purchased content my arcade games are all trial versions.

So I try to log onto live and notice theres a problem I keep getting return to the profile Sign in screen, so I call MS customer support she confirms my info I tell her my issues she comes back to me with "well your account is in collections and so you lose all of your points and downloadable content" I then tell her wait a minute how is this possible collections?I called and canceled my subscription in December of 06' I ask to speak to a supervisor he goes on to say the same but adds I must pay a balance of 49.99 in order to retrieve anything at this time ive been on hold and on the phone for about 45 minutes I i tell him screw this and hang up.

So i'm in collections and I've lost all my points and anything I've purchased because they did not cancel my account like I asked.

Oh on a side note.. I've only had 2 360's, my current one, wich is running fine, and the first that I sold cause I was broke when my GF turned 19.

Only problem I ever had with the 360 is when I last updated Naruto:Rise of a ninja, the japanese voices disappeared somehow.

You do know that some people pay with credit cards instead of a pre-paid live card.

TC, I just don't see how they can do this to you. Specially your arcade games. I'd be pissed if I lost the arcade games I already paid for while I was a silver member. I hope they don't do this to me if I ever decide to not continue my gold membership. Sorry to hear that. I guess I am lucky, got my self a really used 360, and have yet to have any problems other than the faulty DVD drive which I kind of fixed.

So you're saying as long as you pay the monthy fee you can access your DLC? That sucks. You paid for the DLC right? If you already paid for the DLC you shouldn't be required to pay another fee just to use it.

I didn't misunderstand anything. You wrote very clearly. You wrote that you were in collections. You PREPAY for live on a monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, of yearly basis. If your account expires and they cannot auto bill you, or if you don't do it manually, you are reverted from gold to silver. You can still access all your content on silver. The only time I could forsee MS sending any prepaid live account to collections is in situation where the user used all or a majority of the service, then decided to dispute a charge through their card issuer. If you did that, then you deserve it. Sorry. I am just not buying it.

What are you talking about I paid 12 months with my bank debit card, I called and canceled my account when I sent in in for repair in early Dec of 06' and I never had to dispute anything because I got charged once for 12 months. but now that I think about it during the end of that year, Washingtion Mutual went from Visa to Mastercard and MS probably wanted to bill me again but couldnt for something I had canceled.

I hate stuff like this. I'm going through a whole load with BT in the UK, their internet is rubbish and my Bill has a load of stuff on it I didnt sign up for. Threaen them with loads of bad publicity and find out who the governening body for internet services is and complain to them and tell MS your going to. Thats your best chance at getting a response.

I see. You're still not getting it, though. MS doesn't give you a gold account, then bill you 6 months later. You go into collections when you owe money to an entity who tries to collect on an owed debt. MS will not give you access to live (gold), if you cannot be billed. If you cannot be billed, you aren't given live (gold), and thus cannot go into collections. You would be reverted to silver, and you still have access to all of your previously purchased content. Your story doesn't add up.

Let me break it down to you, I Purchase my 360 at launch of 05' get 1 free month of gold so the following month I input my credit info for 12 months of Live, fast forward to the following year Dec 8th 06' I call for repair and to cancel my Live account at the proper time meaning please dont bill my card on file again. now since I've recieved my system I hadnt had the time to play other then when I first got it back from repair up untill now that I am on vacation and have all day to play games as I please, and this is where the problems start, I cant access what should be a my silver account, instead I have a locked account in collections with them for 49.99.

Yup. Credit carda are authenticated immediately, or in batches ever few hours. Live is a prepaid system. You pay before you play. MS doesn't bill you, thus no collectiuons.

In a perfect world that works just fine. Now, I can't say that story is true or not, but it is believable. AOL, for instance, supposedly does the same thing, so how is it that I cancelled my account and still my account went to collections when I even stopped using their service so long ago. I'm not the only one, have read many stories, and AOL is not the only company out there to do this. All I am saying is that these events are possible, even with Microsoft. I've seen my share of little mistakes, I have worked for some hotels for many years, and a slight little mistake can throw a persons credit card charges to a messy thing, and a lot of the times, when they check in, it is already a mess before I got to throw my hand at it.

i think more people should start boycotting microsoft for the crappy way they treat their customers. I mean its ridiculous that its been 2 years since the release of the xbox 360 and it still has constant hardware failures on a regular basis, and Microsoft still will not solve the problem. Also the december update is a load of Sh*t, im 17 and i cannot download M rated content anymore, because Microsoft wants to play big brother. PS3 owners never have to put up with this sh*t.

Or a gamer should know his stuff. For those who decide not to prepay, you buy via credit card. Then it is automatically renewed, so if you don't want to get charged, you have to manually cancel.

Well i dont know what to tell you. That is Microsoft for you. Crappy customer service, and we all know about the unreliable hardware. But as you know they have the games. So what are you gonna do. Take a chance of dealing with sending in your machine, and dealing w/ idiots on the phones who dont care about you,and just want your money. Or are you going to go with a console that has nothing out for it, or a console that you cannot even find and just has little kids games. Tuff decision, but i say stick w/ microsoft, and see if they will work something out for you. If you just get mad and hang up the phone that isnt gonna get anything solved. Scream at them till they decide to do something for the customer who has bought their product. That one way or another isnt satisfied with their service.

not if your credit card/ debit card is on their system. If it is theyy continue to charge you every year 49.99 (i knoe this because when i look at my checking account statement it constantly shows it year in and year out.) and if he cancels credit cards or what not then they will continue to bill a non working credit card so their far his account is in collections. Use logic, my friend.

from what i understand M$ is supposed to revert your membership to Silver now, because they got so many people angry with the auto-renewal BS. I already got an email warning me my membership expires in january. I might just let it revert to silver since i dont play on Live that much. they better not charge my cc unless i agree to renew!

Uhmmm.... I guess you missed the part where he said he cancelled his account. Or perhaps the part where he said it was automatically billed to his credit card. It doesn't matter, companies mess up, and not just Microsoft, if the TC did not want live anymore, why force it on him?

That is why I ABSOLUTELY made sure to buy a prepaid card, no way am I giving Microsoft my credit card after all that I have read. the last time I needed to cancel something, it got so bad, I had to cancel the actual account the card was tied to and start a new one. The company charging me? Still had the guts to call me and tell me my card was not authorizing, no &*% Sherlock.

Your not alone m$ has the worse customer service, Im now on my 3rd xbox 360 and the one they send me is oldder then the first one I brought and the dvd drive sounds like a plane engine. Your best move is to go toBetterBusiness Bureau, Justgoogleit asBetterBusiness Bueau plus the name of the state you live in hopefully that will help.

When I cancelled mine. I called around 2-3 weeks before it is up for renewal. Then call again 1 week later to confirm that my subscription is cancelled. Since I will most likely get a different person on the 2nd call. I ask them to check on their computer if I am cancelled.

well what the point is is that its perfectly legal for me to watch any M rated stuff, and that i used to download M rated stuff before and now MS takes my right away. Not to mention parents have the full capability to limit what their kids see on XBox live from the dashboard, it's redundant, not to mention unfair that MS decides what we can and can't watch. From my experience, as long as it stays on the same machine, you will be okay, since you did pay for the arcade games separately. Once your trial is over, you will revert back to silver membership and retain the right to play your arcade games. What I did read is as follows; should you ever change to a different console for X reason, then you can download the game, but you will have to sign into XBL, even if just a silver user, to verify that your account did pay for the arcade games.

If anyone else knows this to be false, please let us know.

let me put it this way..

you may be able to go out and purchase M rated stuff, see an M rated movie etc.

In aus here M is 15+, still doesnt change the FACT the live is an 18+ service.

US legal age to drink is 21, aus its 18.

Laws and cl@ssifications are individual to the country. Live is a GLOBAL service. Generally globally 18 is recognized as adult. They are well within their rights to make any changes to the live service at any time they deem fit. You dont have a leg to stand on so to speak as all this is part of the TOS you AGREE to when you JOIN. it pays to read stuff before you agree to it.
Not a dictatorship at all.

you can get your parents to promote your account to an adult account, create a new one, or turn 18. those are your choices.

Not to mention parents have the full capability to limit what their kids see on XBox live from the dashboard, it's redundant, not to mention unfair that MS decides what we can and can't watch. They might as well be called a dictatorship

let me put it this way..

you may be able to go out and purchase M rated stuff, see an M rated movie etc.

Not a dictatorship at all.

you can get your parents to promote your account to an adult account, create a new one, or turn 18. those are your choices.

the problem is that i originally bought my account under my moms credit card when i was 15(that was 2.5yrs ago) and now she got rid of her card, so i use prepaid cards now, and i can't upgrade. Secondly, im not going to give MS another of my 50$ to create a new account. Lastly, as a result of the update, even after you turn 18 it still does not record you as an adult. apparently MS forgot that people age with time. It would make more sense to atleast make the age cutoff 17, well atleast in America. otherwise i might as well buy a PS3.

I think the story sounds credible enough(the "points system" that you pay for content on xbl alone should tell you how willing they are to steal your money) Anyway, I've never had a problem like that before, but when they repaired my 360 after it broke down they sent me back one that was also on the verge of breaking. It hasn't broken down yet but if I play for more than about three hours it freezes.

Wait a minute. Are you saying they reverted fully paid for, full version arcade games that currently exist on your hard drive to trial versions?

That would be completely illegal and a huge lawsuit ready to happen, that would be the same as them coming to your house and changing your game disks to trial versions because they said you owe them money.

I doubt very much that happened, or maybe I just misunderstood ya.

[QUOTE="ascendentjustic"]i think more people should start boycotting microsoft for the crappy way they treat their customers. PS3 owners never have to put up with this sh*t.ascendentjustic

as i mentioned to you in the other thread, live is a GLOBAL service, so 18+ across the board it is. You NEED to USE THE PROMOTE ACCOUNT FEATURE. this will make your account an adult account..

I agree...MS is a greedy company and unless you sign in to LIVE you cant access things that you pay for. Including maps and arcade games, and extention packs....Im done with MS after this gen as well...The only real game that I like that belongs to MS is Halo so ...I can get my shooting fix somewhere else...Sorry for your troubles

Sorry but it sucks to be you! I've had my 360 for almost 2 years now and I haven't had a single problem. I guess you're just unlucky.
