hey guys,i was looking for cheap hdtv solutions, and the best i could find was a crappy baseline hdtv with bad picture, and then i thought "hey, comp monitors have great resolution, why not?" so i was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for hi resolution monitors. I willl be in a small space, so anything around 22" would be goodthnx

I recommend Samsung, get the lowest response time 8 or lower is great.  Get a widescreen monitor and anything above 19 inch will be great.  I personally use a Westinghouse 22inch monitor because I got it for 200 bucks.  But my friend has a really nice Samsung 19inch widescreen monitor with 2000:1 contrast ratio which is really good for bright lit rooms or if the sun glares onto your screen.   Watch the cheap monitors though,  if you can afford it get a samsung or a dell monitor, also  read the reviews for the monitor and you should be good to go.

I also reccomend Samsung.  It has to be a good monitor, that is what M$ uses for their kiosks when they show off the 360 system.

I have a magnavox 19" lcd tv that supports VGA and it is HD. I got mine at a Target for *%, it was originally 349.99. it is a good time to go there because the displays that are clearance you can get really good deals on. the clearance price, plus 30% for it being a display

Look up the Samsung 906BW.  It's around $240 at Best Buy, it's a 19" widescreen with a 2ms response time and a 2000:1 contrast ratio.  Most monitors in the 200$ range are 700:1 or 800:1 with an 8ms response time.  At 19" its a bit small for an entertainment center, but if you're not too far away it should be no big deal.

I dont really think you can get something cheap and that is good. With todays monitors they want there money for the product. I actually just broke down and got a TV. I got a 46inch Zenith LCD its light weight and a great TV. I got it at Best Buy for like 1200. I know its pricey but, its flipping great on the 360. Especialy playing games like Rainbow 6, Oblivion, and Gear of War!! I dont know if this helped, but I just wanted to state my opinion.

The only thing I have against the 360 and a PC monitor is the VGA cable makes the picture look washed out on PC monitors.  Also when it was hooked up at VGA I couldnt set the brightness and what not so the picture didn't look as good as my HDTV.

Well, the cheapest hd you c an get is probably a pc screen, but you will need a dessant size, nothing under 22 inches... you might find a better deal on ebay 300 t0 500 dollars... you'll probably need a vga cable, I use both my tv and desktop screen, but preffer my tv ( my desktop screen is only 19 inches...) Make sure it has good resolution and a good refresh rate...

That's true, but apperently, beginning of may, with the xbox live updates, they said they will fix that, probably the safest will be to see how well they do that...

cheers!

I got a monitor for my 360 because its way cheaper than a good hdtv.  i just got a Mag 22" wide screen monitor for $330 at best buy and i have no complaints.  The microsoft cable was $40 but it was worth it, it comes with a vga coupler and a useful rca to 1/8" adapter for the audio.

as for the widescreen question. it makes a big difference on the 360.  alot of the games only do widescreen resolution so on a fullscreen monitor it's really small.  I played Dead rising on my 19" fullscreen and it sucked in my opinion.

Also you may neecd a vga to dvi adapter if your monitor only supports a dvi input. thats like 10-40 bucks depending where you get it.

I reccomend a Samsung LCD Monitor. THe one I am using now is a 19" non-widescreen and it looks amazing. You should go widescreen and get the newer model of the one i'm using right now.

Heres the link:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8260516&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat104900050027&id=1170289357904

That monitor is great , it offers a 3000:1 aspect ratio. Its a bit steepy in price but you will get what you paid for.Go to the link and check out the specs, there quite good!

also, don't worry about the brands as much as the return policy and price.  if you take it home and it looks good, keep it.  if you don't then bring it back.  And if you get it shipped make sure they got a return policy if you got dead pixels because ive heard alot of horror stories involving that.

the monitor market is so competitive they are all decently priced and you usually get what you pay for unless you are at some no named sketchy online store.

That url isn't working for me.  I keep getting a 'page was reset' error.  Could you tell me what company makes it and what it's model # is?  I'd like to see it.

I dont know if you guys have ever used the vga cable and a monitor, but I believe they look better than most hdtv's.

I have a LG 20 inch monitor that i got for 300 cdn, and it is just awesome. The picture is amazing and the contrast is at 2000:1, response time is at 5 ms. My monitor looks better than my friends samsung 1080p plamsa.
