I got past the first level where you're on a planet shooting a bunch of stuff. Now Im at a huge open place with green trees and I dont know what to do next! I've gone to a tall white tower and talked to some weird alien, and I've talked to a blue alien girl. How do I continue into the levels?

press the start button, and select "Journal." this will tell you what you have to do. there are secondary assignments and primary assignments, go under primary. when you see a mission that hasn't been completed, select the name and it will tell you what to do.
EDIT: the place you are in now is the Citadel. if you've completed the first mission, and went to the white tower already, if you're really stuck, i suggest finding the Embassies and talk to the ambasador or captain..

I looked, and I cant go anywhere on the galaxy map, but read about the planets. I've been running around for 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do! What do I do?

are you a spectre yet? because if you aren't, then you can't look at the galaxy map. and whenever you select a new system(group of planets), you can only land on one planet. select each planet until you see one where it has "A land" meaning press the A button to land on the planet. some planets have the "A survey" which gives you the chance to survey the planet and gather information about metals, elements, and other items. in the journal, secondary assignments usually always involve uncharted planets and side-quests, while primary assignments involve the main quest of 3 main planets you will be going to: "Feros," "Noveria," and later "Virmire." look at your journal if you're stuck.
