i would suggest for you too...but then i just had my 3rd xbox360 break on me...and untill these problems are worked out...i think it would be wise to wait.. you have no ideahow frustrating it is to have them break on you. and then you call the support line and they give you the same half azzed "sorry" you heard 10 times... it can be a big pain very very big... maybe im just unlucky but i have had 3 xbox 360s and ive had 3 different problems with it... First 360 shredded games, 2nd stoped reading everything, and 3rd had 3 red lights...      i can only hope the 4th im getting will actually last more than 2 months..   the good is the 360 has amazing games comming out...IMO

I've had mine since November of last year, no problems whatsoever. And to your other question - I have an SDTV, and games such as MLB 2k7 look amazing just the same. I don't regret buying my 360, so I suggest you get one, yes. Ohh and BTW, Xbox Live is everything that everyone makes it out to be. Its amazing, and you only have to pay $60 a year (CND).

Alright first off, really disregard the people saying how it the system is so faulty and breaks all the time, that's only a small amount. Lots of people have proper, functioning machines. Even if you have a regular TV, it's all good, still looks very good. You will me missing out on a lot if you don't get xbox live. You can search for xbox live cards on ebay and get a good price.

I think you better go into one of the game store and try their demo machine.

If you like it, buy it. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Personally, I bought 360, 1 month after launching in australia which is 1 year ago and I'm loving it.

No faulty problem, Great Games, Great Controller, Mad graphics (Still looks great on SDTV).

Don't think about it, just do it.   You can't go wrong.  I cannot comment on non-HDTV performance though.

(I wrote a nice post but GS been wierd today, and it went blank, so I have to redo it. On a side, note, anyone experiencing this? Typing, submitting and loosing it.)

I have a 360 with no HD, and I am enjoying it as much as a HD user. XBL is great, even with a slight cost, but it had a great deal of features; voice chat, invite friend to/join friend in game options, most of the people on there a great people to talk to, annoying inviduals in the minority. They added MSn to it too, which could be another nifty thing for you. Pretty cool system. I advise getting Premuim.

You better do your homework. Don't believe that this console is problem prone? Do some reading, my friend. Look above at the "broken 360" sticky.... it has 114 PAGES!!!!

keep it cool and ventilated and it should be fine. I had the 360 for about a month with SDtv. It still looked great. I was lucky and never got a game like Dead Rising that has blurry small text. Once I did get an HDtv all my games ended up looking 2x better.

Bare in mind a majority of those gamers who 360's died had their 360 on subwoofers, speakers, in closed entertainment centers, on the rug. Some even left them on for hours/days without turning it off. The 360 isn't a Nintendo where you could leave it on all day, go to school/work and come back and take off pause.

Don't listen to these hacks. Buy one, if for some reason it does die you have a warranty so no worries.

if your getting one, you may want to wait for the Elite. Im personaly going to buy the 120GB HDD when it comes out because I have alot of CSI, Aqua Teen, southpark and other shows on my 20GB one. Espeacily with Movie Rental Downloads being around 7 gbs for the HD versions of them. (around 2GB for SD) Youll probaly be saving money. (plus it comes with HDMI which is cool is you have a HD TV that supports it, plus its black!) BTW: What does a HDMI port look like? Pic please!

First of all... About the broken 360 stuff...

On a statistical percentage, not a LOT of people are having problems... If you think on how many people own a 360 and how many people are having problems, you will only get a small percentage.

You see a lot of people complaining, because most of the people that speak up are the ones that have the experience of it getting broken. Most people with working machines don't really post that much on "broken 360" threads because they don't really care.

There are also things you can do to somewhat prevent breakage of the machine.

Keep it off of carpet... If possible, have it in the "vertical" stand position, but it doesn't really matter... Just can offer better airflow. Don't pour water on it... Don't change it from the horizontal to vertical, or vice versa position while running with a game in it... It can and WILL screw up that game by leaving deep scratching. Make sure your room temperature isn't unbearable... Don't hit your system... Make sure it's on the bottom of all of your system stuff, or near it (remember, heat rises)... Keep the power brick somewhat far away from it, since it also generates heat.

Just follow those steps, and do everything in your power to keep it alive, and it should be :).

Yes, other things can happen, and yes.. It could still break... But a lot of the issues with the 360 are either overheating issues, or lack of knowledge of the issue.

Don't be afraid to get it... Though you may want to wait till April 29th to get an Elite... Since it's only $80 more and you get a bigger hard drive.. But that's all up to you.

I would wait to get one until the new black version comes out. It may be a little pricier, but, not only is it going to be sleek black, it is going to have a 120 gig hard drive. And I have to say that pretty much any of the nasty kinks that were in the 360s a year ago have been worked out.

I wouldn't buy a 360 if I were you.  Unless you don't mind spending $400 on something that will be obsolete in 1 year when they release another version of the 360.  That is if it doesn't break before then.  I have gone through 3 360's since i got it on day one.

PS- I have all 3 systems and love them all but the 360 is at the bottom of that list.

Elite = "Best deal outhere for a next gen console?" I wouldn't go that far.

One aspect of next-gen gaming is the ability to free yourself from wires (i.e. wireless controllers, wireless headsets, etc.)  Microsoft has decided to "improve" their existing 360 and make it an "Elite 360".  One MAJOR problem i have with the ELite system is that if you want to have Xbox live you need to have an internet connection.  if you want to have your 360 online without having to mess with running a CAT5 cable all over your house youneed to have the ability to connect wirelessly via Wi-Fi.  if you want to connect wirelessly on your 360 or Elite, you need to fork over an extra $100 on top of the retail price for the system just to do it.  Now the price of the "best deal out there for a next-gen console" is $580 which is $20 less than the REAL next-gen console (in my opinion) the PS3.  I know that all you PS3 haters are going to verbally abuse my message here by calling me a sony fanboy or whatever but i am just telling it how it is.  Like i said before, i have a 360 and a wii and a PS3 because i love video games and i love all 3 systems.  i just love my 360 less than my other 2.

I am on my second 360, my launch console died about 2 days short of a year. My current one has been perfect, no problems. I think there were certainly some issues with early 360's, microsoft basically admitted to that, but it seems like the ones now are fine. I dont hear too much about the faulty 360s anymore, not like when they first came out. I just keep getting the best buy warrantee, then there is nothing to worry about.

I dont even know what to say to such a ridiculous post. Why are you in the 360 forum? You probably have never even owned a 360, that would be my guess. The bottom of the list, lol? May I ask what phenomenal games that you are playing on the wii (which is horrible and yes I have one), and the ps3 which doesn't have much of anything out?

Do you live on earth? An aspect of next gen gaming is to free ourselves from wires????? Wires??? Free myself from wires??? Sorry, had to repeat that to myself a few times, just haven't heard that one before. To the original poster, if wires are your big concern on which console to buy, then maybe video games just aren't for you or pretty much any electronic device for that matter. Unreal, lol... Anyways, the 360 is hands down the best console out right now, and thats a FACT. The ps3 might end up being better once it gets going, but thats just a might. The wii is just its own thing, I dont even want to compare it to the 360 or ps3 anymore.

It still looks great on a standard TV set.

Also get the Microsoft extended warranty... It's cheap, like $30?

My 360 is still working great. Just had to vacuum out the drive yesterday though. Good as new.

I have to say I agree with Erik....... I'm amazed at how 360 owners have accepted the possibility of their console breaking down as "normal". What's wrong with what Erik said? Why does one person's opinion, based on his own experiences, hurt so much?

I'm convinced that most of the people here who get so offended are just young kids who find it easier for whatever reason to rant on behalf of Microsoft. I believe if we were all in a huge room together, those of us who can speak more honestly would simple smile and ignore these people.

Anyway, here's my two cents worth: I've owned everything from the Atari 2600 to the Nintendo NES, Dreamcast (Was probably my favorite), PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and the Gamecube. I've been playing video games for well over 20 years. The ONLY consoles I never bought are the PS3 (Bit pricey, but I'm considering it) and the WII (Doesn't interest me). The Xbox 360 is the ONLY console that broke down on me. Use your head. Read up on the issue. Do you see a "Broken PS3" thread on the PS3 forum?

I'd say that if you're convinced that the 360 you buy won't break down after just a few months of use (In my case it was 14 months), then go for it! I'd recommend an extended warrantly, though.

CDWJUSTIN

Honestly..i dont know anyone whos 360 has broke. I think its mostly because they know how to take care of it. Everyone knows that they had/have overheating problems...well then DONT put it in a small place where it cant breath and DONT put it on the carpet and suffocate it. Now either you accidentally misstreated it or you have the ABSOLUTE WORST luck in the world.

Worst luck in the world?

Check out the "broken 360" link above, then go here:

http://forums.xbox.com/5475981/ShowPost.aspx

It's not hard to find a forum where people are complaining about their 360 breaking down. Don't take my word for it, take the word of all the others................

The wii is just its own thing, I dont even want to compare it to the 360 or ps3 anymore.

read the first sentence in my post you dumb**s.  it says "ONE aspect of next-gen gaming is the ability to free yourself from wires (i.e. wireless controllers, wireless headsets, etc."

Rather than being a fanboy for Microsoft why don't you take some time to actually read my post and understand it.  then when you have an actual arguement to make for MS you can reply.  before then stop wasting everyone's time by just saying stupid things without backing them up.

Are you stupid?  i just said that i own all 3 systems and now you are saying i probably never even owned a 360?  what are you, 4 years old?  why did my post bother you so much?  i was just stating my experience and my opinion.  microsoft released the "next gen" system in 2005.  now a year and a half later they are releasing another version?

As for the games that i am playing on wii and ps3, i don't really want to waste my time telling you since you are obviously not very open to other peoples opinions.  and if the wii is so horrible why did you buy one?

I'd save up for a HDTV if you don't have one already rather than getting a 360 and putting it on a regular TV, some folks may downplay it but honestly you'll be glad when you see the two together.

The 360 is a device that can be used for many more things than just gaming.  It can 'bridge the living room gap' from your computer to your tv.  You can stream music and download movies to name a couple.  It is also an excellent gaming machine, which is my sole use of the product.  The BC isn't very good, but most of the games I have have been included in the list.  The online component is also easy to use, but be careful because there is a lot of strong language used in games.  Also cancelling your gold membership can be a real pain

Overall, the 360 is an excellent gaming machine that has matured enough to have an ecclectic collection of games.  Oh, btw, I use it on SDTV(although it would look superb in 720p).
