Here are a few things:

• you can stream high-def content from your PC
• the above includes music files and Windows content
• you can have custom soundtracks in games
• the DVD player upscales DVDs to 720p HD quality
• likewise, all original Xbox games are upscaled to 720p HD
• the game selection is the best of any next-gen system, for now..
• Xbox Live will shut you up for hours (*social factor involved)
• you can download demos, trailers, Arcade games and random tat
• IPTV coming soon which will really enhace the above feature
• cheap HD-DVD add-on if you ever want an HD-DVD player

I read about it a long, long time ago. Perhaps things have changed, I don't know.

I believe you need the VGA cables. Correct me if I'm wrong. 

It plays games...Sure it does more, but that is what you're buying it for. Tell them that, and if they still say no, get a job.
