I got this hard drive for Christmas and I wanted to share some things b/c a lot of people were saying that it isnt worth it. As a gift it is.

1. After I installed the drive it took about an hour to transfer all my stuff. Really I'm not complaining about that

2. The drive is not 120gb after formating and deleting all of microsofts junk they put on it. The drive is actually only 107GB

3. After installing games on the hard drive, since the disc drive is not spining, yes the 360 is very very quiet. I have the old model without the HDMI

4. My own opinion but it does seem that overall the 360 moves a lot faster with everything, loading and DVD's.

5. I live in Houston and at Fry's electronics they are selling the drive for 139.99

Still I would say get it so you can install all your games on your hd so your disc drive will last longer.

yeah. i am thinking about getting a new hdd. the 20 gig is just not enough. I really don't want the 120 though. it is too expensive. beyond that i refuse to give MS any more money because i've now gone through 4 RRODs.

nice post though. Does the hdd come with the tranfer cable or do you still have to order it?

Call Microsoft. They will send you one for free.

But I see your point.

60 gig (with 3 mo. LIVE and ethernet cable) is an option, but the transfer cable comes separate from that.

I bought one for christmas and its great and dont regret it at all. Yes its 107 gig but that is with everything if you buy a computer that says it has 200 gigs it really has 178 or something like that.

A much cheaper alternative can be found online using a Western Digital laptop harddrive. Just search for it.

The 120GB drive comes with the transfer kit. I upgraded from a 60gb drive I bought a few weeks ago. With game installation, 60GB was simply not enough. I actually ordered a seperate 120gb drive with the intention to mod it to work, but I decided not to risk a future ban from xbl. Selling my old 60gb makes the difference in price only $30 or so anyway.

i bought a 60 gig pack that had the hdd, ethernet cable, headset and 3 months live. i then got a free transfer cable from ms. after i put the 60 gig in i sold everything else (inc. my old drive) as i didnt need that stuff and i actually made money from it. so people if you live in the uk and want a 60gb one, go to gamestation, get one for £40 then sell all your stuff. you should make around £30 and have a new hdd:D

Anybody saying it isn't worth it is stupid. Of course its worth it, if you want bigger hard-drive space how can it not be worth it? It's like saying you want a bigger house, if you can afford it, go for it. No one can say it is not worth it. So if you want more space, buy it, no one can tell you otherwise.

I got the 120 GB HDD for X-Mas and I love it. It's great to have all that extra storage space and the data transfer was a snap. I definitely recommend it.

Um, the 360 can't save games or profiles to anything other than the MS hard drives. Your thinking of the ps3. Even if you tried to run it externally through the usb, the 360's usbs are read only.

I have a little problem here, I got a 60gb HDD and I want to transfer my files from my old 20gb HDD but I don't have the transfer cable, so a friend of mine has it but I have to go to is home to do it but I don't want to carry my 360 to do the transfer, if I take only my 20gb and 60gb HDD and do the transfer on his console could we have some kind of problem with that? Do we have some problems with the DRM or is not recommendable, I just want to transfer my gamertag and saves to the new hdd.

i had the same problem and did some research online...apperantly people were being told by MS that they dont send the transfer cable for 60gb HDD's. Im not 100% on this...it might be easier to just call MS and order it over the phone.

The 360 can save games to the 120 gb drive if you take out your origina 20 and install a WD Scorpio drive. You have to flash the drive, and it will operate as a 120gb 360 drive. It's a notebood hard drive, thats all the factory 360 drives are. Yes it WILL work.

I bought a 120 GB on ebay a year ago. It was a good investment at a good price. Can't rember how much I payd for it, but it was a lot less than instore.
