ALWAYS install on your HDD. It runs smoothly, don't overheat and you play safe. Oh and of course almost no noise.

If you can, I would recommend it. i only do it for a game I know im going to play for a while or multiple days. If I jsut wanna pop in Gears for a hour, of course im not going to install it. Ill jsut paly it off disc.

I'd recommend it if you have enough free space on your hard drive. I do it for the games I play a lot as it runs much more smoothly and the loading tends to be a bit faster too.

I really want MS to come out with like a 500 gb HDD so I can be done with it and not worry about upgrading it again.

Is it not advised for multiplayer games? I remember Halo 3 specifically said that they would not suggest it and the performance would decrease. Does this go for all multiplayer games? I usually only install my single player games to my HDD

I believe it only mattered if you had a map pack or something.

But installing means

+Faster load times and less texture popins

+Less heat which helps protect u from RROD

+Increases DVD drive life spand

+less noise.

if you have the space to install and are going to be playing the game alot over a week or so yes, because it's less noise less heat and no chance of screwing up your game.

I usually always install a new game when I get it for the above reasons. and the fact that if I don't and I run into a long load time, I always kick myself and told myself I should've installed it.

it depends on the game really. Some games will see improved performance while some wont and some will actually play worse. You have to try it out for yourself but not every game benefits from installing.

99.9% games are better to install... that 0.01 percent is Halo 3 at least that's only game i hear...

Bungie worked so hard to make the game work good running off a disc shame on bungie for not thinking over a year ahead... JK lol

Benifits are simple...

better load times because its coming right from the hard drive and not reading it off a disc and bla bla...

Disc drive not running making loud noise lol

Xbox is working less which makes xbox little cooler

some game inprove gameplay even... helps to prevent pop ins

no it is one of the only games... because bungie worked so hard to make it run best off disc.. also they said its unpatchable so they couldn't do nothing about it

99.9% is still way to high its less than that. The fact of the matter is that 360 games cant take full advantage of installs because HDDs are not standard. A large part of the install advantage comes from the actual game programing and all 360 games are programed to run off a disc they have to be. There are many more games besides halo that wont benefit from installing and some will actually load/run worse.

I generally install games that I'm going to be playing for a while to the HDD. I've heard it doesn't overheat and it runs smoother with shorter load times. Also, I find that the 360 is noisy if you don't install the game to the HDD.

You do realize that if they made a 500 GB, that MS would charge you $300 for it. I just picked up a 120 GB used on Ebay, and now started installing my games.

No point to me. I installed Fallout 3 and didn't notice any difference in load times and the game ran the same as it did before. I did lose 8 minutes installing for nothing though. If you have your console hooked up to a sound system of any type, you probably won't notice the change in noise since it's only audible if you play games on mute or at super low volumes so your parents can't hear you play when it's past your bedtime. RROD is caused by the CPU or GPU overheating and installing doesn't allow games to bypass graphical processing. Seems like a waste of time from my experiences. Only pro is that it lets you fill your hard drive up faster for people who purchased a large drive that's been less than 20% filled for years and were starting to feel like they threw some money down the trash can.

If you have the space then yes. I recently installed COD4 to my HDD, because my 360 was incredibly loud when i was playing online.

Installing the game is supposed to make it load faster when you play, but I haven't really noticed a difference.

I only install used games to make sure they work all the way through. Then I delete them

I almost always install. The pros outweigh the con (time spent waiting for it to install) in this case.

Here are a few load time difference DISK vs HD.

One game that made a huge difference wasLost Odyssey. It's actually 2x faster off the HD.

I installed BioShock 2 a few days ago the load times are probably 10-15 seconds shorter. It also means my drive isn't going to die anytime soon.

If you have the space, it's definitely worth it to install.

Depends on the game of course, but more often than not you will reap the benefits of:

  • Quiet-running Xbox
  • Cooler console conditions
  • Quicker loading times

I never install the games, and it works fine. It's not necessary. I keep the 20 GB HDD for game expansions...

lost odyssey eh.. too bad installing came around way after that game.. Thats one thing I really disliked about the 360, the arcade version.. when MS first announced there would be a no hdd sku and they would never make a game that required an hdd, you knew right there they where taking a step back from the original xbox with it's build in hdd...

If you got the 20GB drive like me, install the 1 game you play the most. If you have the larger ones you may be able to get away with 3 or so games. Now if you got the 120GB I think there's no problem with installing as many as you can, but just leave enough space for saves -map packs - etc.

I always install. Less noise, doesn't wear out the DVD drive, games load faster (and sometimes perform better), less heat, no accidental scratches. You don't have to of course, but the option is there, and I may as well use it as nothing else if filling up my HDD.

depends, for example there is halo 3 , in which case bungie declared that installing it would crap out load times. On gears 2 it reduces pop ins which is great. So yeah I would recommend on most games from late 2008 till today

There's only like six games out of the entire 360 library that are not allowed to be installed, and that has to do with the fact that Microsoft was able to test and verify that the games performed worse that way. Halo 3 and Crackdown were about the only two out of the list that I know of that I used to play that had this problem.
