i dunno why people think that putting the 360 on vertical is dangerous as long u don't move it is ok...and about the intercooler yea i think that the good intercooler as long that don't make use the power supply of your 360(Nyko sucks btw) is fine

if your 360 is vertical it can scratch your games easily though it doesnt really hurt anything but if your game does get scratched then there is a chance that it wont work.

I have yet to hear of a Nyko one that has worked for more than a month. Biggest garbage product I have seen yet. Have not tested the madcatz one.

It won't destroy your console. I'm looking at my 360 games and there are no scratches. I think vertical is only a problem for some 360's.

The 360 looks better horizontal anyway (it's safer) but don't bothe rwith an intercooler they wiped my DOA4 file, just keep your console in a well ventilated area i.e not right next to your Tv and a radiator and you should be fine.

why would you want an intercooler? the only reason those are made is so companies can make quick cash from people that think that it will stop their 360s from messing up.  any hardware problems the 360 may have don't come from overheating.  the temperatures of the 360s are very carefully controlled.  microsoft knows exactly what temperature the 360 needs to be at.  the temperature is not something you want to mess around with.  if you think that you know better than microsoft about temperature control for the 360, and you have nothing better to throw your money at, then by all means please get an intercooler.  but it's a waste of time and money.

I called 8004myxbox and spoke with a specialist about the coolers and he said

1. They do not recommend using any products not manufactured by microsoft or that dont appear on xbox.com

2. He said that the cooler operates off of the 360's power supply, which was only designed to put out enough power to operate the console, therefor it is causing the 360 to use more power than it was intended to.  Which is not good at all.

3. He also said that if Microsoft thought that the console over heating was an issue Microsoft would have made its own cooling system.

Finally, I dont know if it is a coincidence or not but I had an intercooler on my first 360 and it ended up going out on me.  Your best bet is to go to a electronics store and purchase a tiny fan to place near you console that operates off its own supply and make sure that your 360 is in a well ventilated spot.

ok rly i have a launch console thats been vertical since day 1. With not a single problem..the scratches only occur if u move the 360 even slightly with game in and on. Then it stands to hurt it more than if it were horizontal. Otherwise standing it vertical is completely safe as im at least 1 persons proof. The intercooler that goes on bottom is ok to use. its that Nyko one that uses 360's own power that attaches on back that hurts the 360. Simply because it causes the 360 to work harder cuz it has to supply power to both which negates the fact that its trying to help cool it down.

Adding intercoolers and such is not a dumb move by no means.  Keeping the temperature low for an electronic device is a good thing, although the Nyko intercooler are POS - don't use those.  I just bought a fan and positioned it behind my 360 to pull air from the back.  My 360 is also well ventilated, but I still take cooling precautions.  You made a point that Microsoft built the 360 controlling the temperature and so on, but Microsoft can not account for enviromental factors, be that setting your 360 in a closed in space or living in a high temperature place.  Just do what you can to help keep the 360 cool, as it is a good thing and helps protect the life of the 360.  Do not buy a Nyko intercooler though - they melt, catch on fire, and are the biggest POS I have ever seen.

Most of the problems have been fixed and they were not heat related either.  If you just place the console in a well ventilated place you will be fine but if you still think it gets hot then place a fan beside it to blow more air into the console.  Those cooling kits are garbage they offer no improvement whatsoever.  Your better off without one.

To me the best option to keep the 360 cooler is a fan upgrade.  The only problem with that is you have to open the console and viod the warrenty.  This is an upgrade I plan to do after my warrenty is up or if Microsoft ever puts a better fan in the 360 like there's been some rumors about but that may or may not happen.
